Louis Lazarus of Milt's Sign Service asked me to post this for him.....
"Would you have any knowledge of how to get a Mutoh 620C plotter working with ANAgraph's Design Art? One of my customers just bought the Mutoh and brought it over to me to get it working. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with "this beast" but I thought you may have a contact or suggestion. I'm pretty sure the program is communicating with the plotter because when I press "PLOT"....I do get a little message on the display on the plotter. Something needs to be set but before I go a screw it up worse, it might be a good idea to find an expert. Any help you can provide would be sincerely appreciated."

I don't know anything about the equipment Lou as asking about. Can anyone here help?
Thanks!

you have to set the driver for the plotter. in 3.5 do this by going to plotter , plotter selection and highlight the plotter u wanna use.
Thenu goto ploter , plotter definitions. and set the drivers. There is a four level menu there 1 sleect plotter next step is description then set plotter ports then exit.
u may have to play around a littel . but it works every time.
be sure you do not select a serial port in use by the modem. good luck

Glenn, I don't think I can help your friend with his problem, but I would like to tell you that I bought an Anagraph Plotter, the ANA Express AE, about 5 yrs. ago, (with my Design Art program)& it was a demo model. It needed to be sent to California from here in Pensylvania a couple yrs. ago, & cost me $600 to get repaired-ouch! But for the most part, it is a workhorse of a plotter. i have been cutting sandblast mask on it a lot, & as long as I lay it on the floor, it cuts away. as for the Design Art program that I got with it, it was awful! It constantly was freezing up while I would be doing layouts with the customer here next to me. The problem was applying colors to my layout. Also, it constantly was freezing up during node edit. tell your friend to remember to save, save, save, as work, or you will lose hours of work. I am usually a fairly patient woman, but kept having impulses to punch my monitor! I found out from the people I bought it from that Design Art was supposed to come up with an upgrade, but never did. (unless they have by now)Anyway, I finally went to a sign show in Ohio & bought my Signlab program at about 1/2 the price, & I am SO glad I did! That program does SO much more, & the money you invest in it will actually SAVE you money in the long run, because of the time you save doing layouts. I hope this will help your friend. Tell him I will say a prayer for him. Bobbie

My guess would be that the software is trying to use a plotting language other than what Mutoh recommends. I had the same problem with my plotter. Some software changed the plotters preferred language. Changed it back & works fine. Of course that only happens when you're in a hurry.

I spoke with Lou not long ago. He said it had been a about a year since logging on to letterheads.
He and I go back about 15 years. We became really good friends over the phone even though he lived in CA and I lived in NY.
I eventually flew out to meet Lou and Corrine and stayed a week with them at their home with their 14 children. I had a great time out there.
He and I struggled through the very early days of 286 computers and Anagraphs first version of Design Art. Somehow we each learned a lot from each other. Boy things have come a long way.

Many thanks to those who offered their help. I'm going to give all of these suggestions a try. What can it hurt? How do I get myself into these kinds of predicaments? Knowing absolutely nothing about DesignArt and even less about Mutoh plotters....this should be fun....!!! I'll let everybody know how things turn out...if they do.
And Bob S. ...14 children...hmmm? You're giving "the peeps" the wrong idea here. Give me a call when you have some time and we'll talk a little golf. How about that Ben Curtis?
