I have been having a 3 week running battle with the city, over a leak in my water line.
The city people came out, installed a new water meter (because it was time to change out my meter, some schedule they do as a regular thing)
Immediately after they installed the meter, turned back on the water they left, about 4 hrs later i noticed the meter box was filling up with water.
I called the city, told them they had caused a leak, by installing the new meter. they said they would put out a work order on it, The next day nothing happened, my front yard was flooded, I called again, advised them and also said I did not intend to pay for the water that was being lost, regardless whether it was on their side or mine.
They assured me I would be passed over on the meter reading and would pay the minimum. Another week passed by, no repairman or inspector.
We called again, this time my wife(ex legal Secretary) did the calling, same answer, work order, no extra charge would fix as soon as possible, please be patient. Third week, meter reader comes in my shop wanting to know if my toilet was leaking as the meter was running very fast. I took him out showed him the water squirting out of the line and told him about our previous experiences. He said, well the leak is on your side, you should get it fixed.
I said, please have your boss call me, as I have no intention of paying for a high water bill on a line that the city broke. He said, we don't talk to the water dept, we are just contracted to read the meters. I call again, this time sort of angry.
"Don't get in a huff sir, we have a work order on it, please be patient."
finally they send the guy to inspect the line, I go out with him show him the stream of water coming out, explain about the new meter, and
expect him to say we'll fix it right away, not!
"The leak is on your side" he said, to my disbelief. I said look, who is your boss?
I want us to go in the shop and get him on the phone, And I will explain to him that I am not paying for the repairs to a line you people broke, nor am I paying a high water bill, and I may even sue you, him and the city for stress related illness. He gave me the name, I called, no answer.
I said, what is this, they don't even have an answering machine, by this time I was fuming.
I told the guy, If this water line is not fixed today, you will hear from my lawyer, who happens to be the city's lawyer too. The guy left, two hrs later my water was magically fixed.
Why in gods name do we have to go through all that,
Because city employees are trained to mind their own business, and like shultz the hogan's heroes Sargeant, tell you, (I know nothing)
Please excuse this vent. LOL

Bill,

Went through some similar antecs today, We have a trash program where we have to pay for city trash bags, the money pays for better trash service and the ability to have appliance removal for free or whatever.

So today they come to pick up trash, my bucket is by the curb with the cover on so animals do not get at it, they pick up all others but mine, when I call I was told that I am to remove the lid or they will not pick up the trash.

So I ask the twit, what are they running a freaking country club down there, they're "trash" men not sanitary engineers, what the guy cant lift the freaking plastic lid to get my trash??? I said be real lady, if my trash is not picked up today you can sweep the freaking trash out of the streets, then maybe the trash guy will cry for getting a blister on his oh so soft hand.

not supposed to lift the lid,,,,, now I've seen everything

Reminds me of the time when I got into it with
the city water department because their meter was
reading 1 1/2 gallons for every 1 gallon used. They sent a guy out to check it and he wanted to
know how I had measured the gallon quantity of water. I told him with a one gallon paint thinner
can. He proceeds to tell me that a gallon of thinner is not the same as a gallon of water.
Where do they dig up these nitwits that work for the city utilities?

I'm having the same problem with the natural gas company. Their gas is dirty & burns orange, turning walls brown, destroying appliances.

They had a nitwit come out. Spent 20 minutes trying to give me all kinds of bs. Everything he said this minute he would contradict in 5 minutes. Finally I had it & explained to him that just because I was a female, didn't make me an idiot. I then re-hashed everything he told me, but re-arranged it to show him he was contradicting himself. Finally he asked when was a good time for his supervisor to come out. I said I'm here on Sunday afternoon. Still haven't seen his supervisor. This was after I called the 800# in Virginia, had the idiot there put me on hold waiting for her supervisor (45 minutes on hold). She refused to give me their actual street address cause I told her I'd be down in the morning.

The saga continues....

Hahahahahahahahaha!

I am laughing out of sympathy for you all...

The day before our second "Sign Show-Off" Letterhead meet, we heard a loud thud, a tinkle of metal, and the sound of running water eminating from the bay. Running out there, we discovered that the entire bottom had burst off the water meter.

We called the Water Dept. and they said they would send a guy out to fix it in the morning.
After the meter was installed, which required a crew of three, the supervisor type guy informed us that the cost of the new meter would be billed in our next bill.

We asked him why we had to pay for the new meter. We had done nothing to break it. It had simply worn out. He said it was due to freezing. Hmmmmmmmmmmm... Funny... it was the middle of June. "Oh no", he says, "it is from the winter time." Seems to me that we would have noticed it leaking, don't you think?

The Water Dept. was insisting that we had to fork out the $400 for the new meter and installation. No if's, no and's, no but's...

Seeing that Pop worked for the water department in a neighboring town, I asked him about this. He said to call the water department in our town and ask them for their water pressure charts for that day. I told them that I bet there was a major pressure surge at 4:08 PM the day before.

We are still waiting for that meter bill...
