The common misconception is that when you get to Canada you get to the land of ice & snow... not on the west coast.
You are gonna be surprised. The island gets two weeks of frost in a cold year. Snows maybe two or three times at most. And mostly in January & February.
In September you will find it very green, with the flowers still in full bloom. Bring a light jacket & maybe a sweater for cooler evenings. It may rain a bit, but September generally is pretty dry.
I'll be there & ready to have some creative fun!

Hey Susan, are there links to interesting things to see in the area? Some folks may want to click on it to see some history, for example, I believe it is called "Klinkit?" Native artwork like you see on Totem Poles? Where can I link to this? While in Alaska in 2000, Bob Parsons told me of this art, very interesting. It's also a good source for a project Panel!

We are not selling, we are staying here in Mazeppa....we cannot re-create what we have here....not in another lifetime! SO Here we are!!!!!!!
We have an artist here on the peninsula who is an expert carver, although not a native himself, he is fully authorized to produce indiginous art by the S'kallam Indian tribe His name is Dale Faulstich, he has been in Signcraft twice, and I finally got the chance to meet him last week. http://www.olypen.com/hhtd/
We are travelling through Cranbrook, stopping in Vancouver and heading out to stay with relatives on Pender Island. We don't think we'll be making it to Vancouver Island at all this trip...too much family to see.

But you are so close Suelynn! Actually, unless you take the "milk run" ferry which stops at a few other small islands before you get to Pender, the other route is ferry to Victoria then ferry to Pender, so you may actually get a foot on vancouver Island.
Now, if you do get a free afternoon and want to get away from family for a break, Nanaimo is really quite close. Plus you will have the opportunity to drive thru Chemainus on your way there. I recommend all who have the chance to stop there and gaze at some of the beatiful murals throughout this beautiful little town. Lots of wonderful historical murals, and many painted by our own Dan Sawatsky (and son Peter on some). This really should be a "cant miss" opportunity for all attending the meet.
Susan, I am hoping to attend this meet. I have wanted to get to one for so long, and now here it is right in my own backyard! Hopefully it doesnt collide with an annual Fire dept fuction I attend every year about that time. I should know by next week if the weekend is free for me, and I will rush off a cheque for registration before your deadline.
I am looking forward to rubbin elbows with some of the greats that will be coming. I really want to make it to this thing!
