This morning a client flew Scot and I to Block Island for a small wall job. The client has an old building that was rebuilt, and had photos from the 40s with the original signs and lettering, which read "home made fudge" in classic egyptian block, red with a black shade. The job included two small signs done in the shop, also old-school handlettered to say "Dirty Gertie's Game Room & Cafe". Then on site he had two circus-sideshow type panels that needed to say "Gull Boy" and "Lobster Girl". All the on-site work was quick ruler-n-stabilo layout, then bang it out with a big quill - loose, fast, circus-type copy. No prep, no patterns, just hand & eye, like the old days. Not to mention being outside on a nice (actually hot) day, away from the phone, the puter and the stress. I'd forgot how much fun this job could be.

No Rope-a-Dope for me, but I did have a couple of ice-cold salves at lunch. Ahhhhhh....wouldn't be Block Island without adult refreshments.
