I wrote the email to kill the Sterling Mural project... and just went upstairs to let Janis proof it... then the previous owner of our property dropped in to get his mail...
As he left I was going back into the dungeon to hit send & effectively cancel the project and the phone rang...
Miracles do happen.
I'm on the way to Sterling, Illinois at 9:01 AM tomorrow. I have made arrangements to start the mural immediately on my arrival around 6:00 pm
And I should be all done before 3 PM on Saturday June 28th as that is when I leave town to go to Chicago to fly home again.

Sounds like alot of work, but fun,Dan. I think sometimes I do my best work when under pressure, but I can't handle that all the time. I wish I could hang out with you on one of your projects sometime. Heck, I might even help.

Well since the last posting an hour ago we've had a few more bumps & hickups... it might be a little tense at the customs tomorrow morning as I only have fax copies and not an original paper in sight. Depending on the agent in charge I may just make it through the border tomorrow...
But I have it on good authority, who heard it from whoever was talking to the authorities that I have what I need.
Tommorow I hit the ground running, and once again I'm assured that EVERYTHING is in place. I think I've heard that one before (for the last two years on this project).
All the local newsmedia in Sterling & area have been notified that I start painting the mural tomorrow evening.
It's good to hear from you Raymond... glad you're up and about!
My contract is with the Mural Society of Sterling. My fee is $10,000 US plus all expenses including travel, insurance lodging and even meals. They do the scaffold, wall prep & supply paint & all brushes except my fitches. As part of the deal I assign all rights of the artwork & mural to them.
I can hardly wait until I don't have to depend on other's arrangements to do my work.

Haha Dan! you're due for something to go RIGHT on this project. May interns descend upon you with coffee & sandwiches to keep your energy up, help moving your ladders, clean your brushes, and anything else that could make your task easier. If you pull this off you should get a medal.

Dan, I've always enjoyed the way you deal with things when the tumbling dice of life take a funny bounce!! It appears to me that, once again, you've managed to turn what could have been just another job into an adventure! Congratulations & best wishes!! Thanks for keeping us posted and I'm looking forward to hearing "the rest of the story"!!
p.s. Are you sure you'e not taking this work permit thing a little too seriously? We have quite a few folks working in this country that haven't even bothered to apply for a work permit, let alone get one (a lot of them just walk across the border).

In case anybody wants to look me up, the address of the mural I'm doing in Sterling is on the south wall of a building at 501 Locust Street, Sterling Illinois.
I'll be there daily (long hours) weather permitting from tomorrow night until the mural is finished or next Saturday at 3 pm.
I'm told lots of classes of school kids will be coming by to chat with me , get a history lesson & watch the progress of the mural. Last time we spoke to over 1500 kids. They are a blast!
They sent me a cool, professionally hand lettered banner with all their signatures in pen on it as a thankyou. It will hang proudly in my new workshop.

Dan, That's terrific, glad things are shining down on you, as the weather here is so perfect! (you will be thrilled). We have had next to nothing in snow, and the spring has been the best in the country, only an occasional rainfall every couple or three weeks. The skies are as bluer than any color chart One Shot could print, and the white cumulus clouds racing and floating in the atmosphere will refresh you! Monday calls for rain, but we have had 80's in the day and 60's at night. The rain shouldn't last long, maybe just a day. I can come out a couple times since it is so close. I didn't want to promise last week, but now I am sure to be there to watch, maybe hand you a clean brush or two? Coffee and munchies on the way! have a safe trip. We'll see you when you get here, with carpet rolled out!

Deb, bring COKE rather than coffee and you'll be Dan's friend forever.
Sounds great Dan! Will you be painting with anyone else or doing this one solo? That's alot of kids to talk to while attempting to get some work done! And here I complain about one customer yakking to me as I work...
