I just downloaded the fonts from the Resident Download section and it "strongly suggested" that the postscript version of the fonts be installed. What makes them better to use than truetype?

Terry..only difference I notice is that type1 fonts have a lot fewer nodes.

My experience has been that Type 1 fonts, due to the fact they inherently have less points, are cleaner at large sizes. Therefore, I much prefer Type 1 for production.

True type have been known to have problems being output of RIPs, so most printers will only accept Postscript fonts... In general, its more an issue when printing our outputting film than anywhere else...

Thanks guys, David...after reading through several paragraphs last night, I decided that I'd had enough Dewar's for one night. After rereading it this morning, I realized it wasn't the Dewar's.

Here at the newpaper we only use postscript fonts. There are a couple few system fonts on the machine that are not ps, but we're not allowed to use them in ads.

On the several Macs I've used the PostScript fonts work fine - I can manipulate them all I want, force, squeeze, bend, etc. and they print fine. The True Type ones only print well if I use them straight as is - I can't force them or the spacing goes all haywire and the letter forms stay as designed.

I agree with Dave and David -- fewer nodes. this makes for a smoother plot with less jags on larger letters. I wonder whether less nodes means a smaller file size when you convert text to curves. I know in Corel the combine command yields a smaller file than the group command, and in some but not all cases these 2 commands do the same thing.
