Here is the update ... a pretty happy ending all in all.
I sat down and wrote up an agreement to make some of the specified changes to their site. I wrote each of the changes we were willing to include in the amount that was owed us. I then gave examples of what sort of things would come at an additional cost. I met with the customer, one on one, and explained each point in my typed agreement, voicing also that we would not be willing to make any further moves on the site, unless we recieved the payment that was owed at that time. Once we got some things resolved, I had him sign my agreement.
Well, it looks like things worked out for us. I walked away with not only payment in full on the outstanding invoice for the website design, but also another check for hosting!
It also looks like we may be getting more work from them, as they are wanting the entire site done in another language for European exposure. (yikes) This is still in the discussion phase, so we'll cross that bridge when it becomes more real. (like when I get another deposit for that venture)
For now, the site is "live", and we have made a majority of the agreed upon changes. Still have a few photos changes on a couple of the inner pages, and some minor copy changes once I get info from them.
I consider this experience a test, if you will, of my abilities to handle a trying client. I think that even though this one took more time than it should have, we still came out okay. Luckily, I had some padding worked in from the start, as I had anticipated some of the turbulence we incurred on this one!
Thanks again for all the encouraging input from my original thread!

Hi Janette, I'm glad to hear that this worked out for you. The site is great. I was really suprised that they had a problem with it.

Didn't see the original post...thanks for providing the link. You know as well as just about every one of us, the creativity we enjoy in our minds, ( sign folk, graphic folk, monster garage / house folk heheheheee) 90 some odd percent of the rest of the world just can't envision what we see.
Best thing I was able to read was.... "We have the check! And he wants more. !"
IMHO...Great site.

That site a: Makes me want to rent one for a week, or even a MONTH!
b: Makes me feel the pricing for the rentals is WELL WORTH IT! I'm not kidding. I actually found myself fantasizing(sp?) when we could book into one of the units and for how long!
From a marketing standpoint, you excelled on this one! Beautiful job. And I did not know you do web design and hosting, but now I do. Can we talk?

Yeah Janette, what they said - absolutely KILLER JOB!
I missed your first post so I read the link you gave to the original, then looked up the temp directory where you had the working version of the site. At first I didn't see the changes, but when I studied it closer, I'd have to admit that while all the changes were slight, every one was a good call. It went from great to phenomenal. What a team you and Dave make.

Nettie, I just read the older thread & checked out the site as you had posted it there within your own domain. I have to agree with so many of your supporters that it was an excellent site already. (I loved the image of your sign & the discovery that the logo/navagation tool bar was the same)
Just now though, I tried to see the actual site & got a 404 After about 4 attempts I gave up... could it be clogged with adoring letterville fans all checking it out at once?
* just saw that Joe got in, so... 5th time was a charm. Probably trouble with my own server. Looks great!*

It's only been live for a couple days, could be that your ISP isn't resolving the domain yet. It usually only takes 2 or 3 days but I've seen it take as many as 7! Check back later Doug?
Dave
OK, glad you got in Doug.
Thanks for all the nice compliments everyone!!!

Sometimes you get too close to a project, and can't see it totally objectively anymore. Then when you get less than rave reviews, as I did with this customer, it makes you doubt yourself. That can prove to be a good thing, because there is usually always room for improvement on things.
That place really is beautiful. Particularily the Sandpiper Suite, which is by far the nicest unit. It's really private and peaceful out there on that beach too. One of these days, we may get out there for a weekend. hmmmm.... wonder if they'll cut me a break in cost? heehee!
