Maybe others have this problem.... Had a new system built w/ Win XP Pro OS. Loaded all my "stuff". SignWareHouse told me prior to this new purchase that all I would need was the HDD32 driver. Ok, everything installed just fine and I'm sitting here so pleased w/ all this UNTIL I go into SignLab (VE Platinum) and start a layout- guess what? The "undo" function WILL NOT work. Checked the options and all. Won't work ! Even in Edit>Undo, it's disabled . As far as concerned, if that won't work, I can't work!
Anyone else have this problem? If so, were you able to fix it? SWH forwarded my tech question to someone else and the response was: tell your customer they'll have to buy LXi!?!?!? Like I have a couple extra thou laying around here.
I'm seriously considering VMPro- liked their demo.

Had exactly the same problem with XP Home, and Signlab 5, Assistant level. New computer with a LOT of RAM. Couldn't seem to track a solution until after I went for e6 upgrade.
Finally went to Cadlink's website and eventually found the answer.
The problem occurs if your computer has over 512 0f RAM---- Signlab misreads it. (Mine has 1024) Go into your virtual memory settings, and reset the lower number to 100, leave the higher number, whatever it is, alone. Probably have to re-boot for changes to take effect.
Can't remember exactly how to get to virtual memory settings, other than Start/settings/control panel, and after that I forget.
FWIW, it is an easy fix. Good luck, and let the BB know if it works.

Bill- went in and looked at the system settings but I don't know enough about it make any changes- especially when it gives that little warning.
Have a gig of RAM and 2- 80 gig HD that mirror each other.
Any other thoughts...... please!

i got a h/d with XP. took me 2 weeks of p***** round.....before XP decided to recognize an additional LPT-2 CARD!!!! and then it now calls it LPT-3 ANDDDDDDDDDD LPT-1 & LPT-3 show up on either printer iam using!!!!!!! i guess XP has em grouped into one printer port!!!!! not real thrilled with XP for sign work, i still have a 30 gig h/d i use for daily work......

Finally remembered through trial and error---lots of errors--- how to change settings in virtual memory.
On your desktop click on My Computer, new page opens, at top left System Tasks click on View System Info, opens new page labeled System Properties--click on tab marked Advanced--new page, top section labeled Performance, click on Settings button, this opens Performance Options page-click on Advanced again, at bottom of next page click on Virtual Memory, then click Change button. New page again--Click a button that looks like a bullseye marked Custom. You have finally arrived!!!!!!!!!
There should be an area that says Initial Size in MB, and the number may be fairly high. Change it to 100. Leave the Max number at whatever it is, and click OK at the bottom.
I can't remember if you have to re-boot or not. Probably. You already said you have a gig of RAM, and Signlab has acknowledged that this has been an issue, and that the program misreads the virtual memory as a negative number.
I think you will find that this will work.

Bill- You're a doll! If I change the settings though, does that mean the system thinks it only has, say, 512mg RAM, or is virtual memory something different?
I have XP Home version on my laptop- SignLab runs flawlessly (at least from what I can tell- I only use it for layouts I do after I get home but I have no problem doing a layout and taking to the office the next morning.
Why does "shybit" (new term to add to the "Bullboard, if it's not already here) happen at 4pm on Friday... consistently... sounds like a question for the "Thinker". I've got nearly 100 jobs lined up and I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO SCREW AROUND W/ BUGS!
I have 2 CPU's out in the shop running 98SE, each is set up for a specific process- everything is networked together, but I want to work in my "cusheee" office!

Tell the truth, Linda, I don't know. I think virtual memory is more on the order of "borrowed" space on the hard drive if one needs more than available RAM. It doesn't fool the system into thinking there is only 512 as far as I know. That would I guess be counterproductive. I think it just allows Signlab to see what it needs to see in order to operate.
The problem didn't turn up on my computer at first---it went along fine for several months, and then just appeared. I was using Signlab5 at the time, had it a long time and the warranty had expired. Tech support was going to be an expensive proposition (so much per call, and I don't think any guarantee of a solution) so I went ahead and upgraded to SL e6. It's OK, a few more bells and whistles, but enough different than 5 that it was harder to get around in. Both are on this computer, but greater familiarity with 5 dictates that I use it the most.
Did this solve your problem? Inquiring minds want to know.
Just happened to remember, you said XP Home on your laptop worked well with Signlab----How much RAM is "under the hood" of the laptop? I would bet that it has 512 or less. The point being I don't think the operating system or the version ( Home vs. Pro)is at fault here. A RAM issue only IMHO.
It is Sunday morning now, and overnight I remembered when my "undo" went South. It all started right after I downloaded some update or patch from Cadlink. Don't recall what it was supposed to do, but I sure know what it did that I'd have wished it hadn't. Up to then SL5 had gotten along fine with RAM way in excess of 512. The annoying thing was that it was going to cost pretty good to fix a problem I had not had up to when I downloaded something from them. Go figure.

It sounds like you've already been taken care of here, so I'd just like to add a few comments to build upon what Bill has mentioned, for the knowledge of the group.
The magic number at which the Undo Edit button stops working is 2 GB of combined physical and virtual memory. Linda, you have already mentioned that you have 1 GB memory. This is your total physical memory, the actual memory that resides on the motherboard. If your virtual memory exceeds 1 GB, then the Undo Edit button will not work.
Virtual memory is what the Operating System calls the Hard Drive when programs do not have enough physical memory to work with. Sometimes called "Swapping", the operating system (XP) will use the hard drive if there is not enough physical memory available for all processes that are running.
So, if Linda's machine has her virtual memory set to use 1 GB or more of hard drive space, then the total amount of memory assigned to the system will exceed 2 GB.
Bill, has already described where to set the Virtual Memory settings. Linda, I will also email you a tech note that describes this problem and the solution.

Hey- Everyone- IT WORKED!!! Hubert, your note and email gave me the confidence to go in change the settings. I can't believe how simple it was. With your permission, I would like to be able to pass on your email instructions to anyone else having the same problem.
Bill- you were right on the money . You are a genius.
I have spent the whole weekend and this morning (up til now) working VERY carefully not to make any unfixable mistakes... man, that's dedious.

duh! I meant tedious! oh well, now I'm elated- can't believe the "little" things we take for granted. When I first started w/ computers on a serious level (many moons ago!) there was no such thing as "undo". In the mid-60's, we had to wear robes and junk just to enter the CPU room- good 'ole college days!- but, Lord of Mercy, how fast things moved.
The best part is the support we ALL receive here. Try getting answers from fellow screenprinters or REAL answers to dye-sub ?'s- NOT! Delphi is the best but limited.
Anyway, Steve and Barb have provided a great forum for us here, and while it's been said before, I personally want to add my "mucho gracios" to the ever-growing list thankful patrons. You're right up their next to Al-Anon (not to be confused w/ AA) ,(not be confused w/ American Airlines).

I forgot to mention one thing. This memory issue has been fixed in later versions and revisions of SignLab. This tech note only applies to version 5.0.
This problem has been corrected in all versions of e6.
