Sorry Sam, I am on my way over to review your papers. If all is not in order, well, it is off to the Letterville Gulag for you. Since 9-11, things have changed. Or was it since the early Letterville Bullboard wars I faintly remember?

It's all timing man. Like others said, this place is full of great people, but like elsewhere, sometimes some of the great people are full of somethin else. Myself included.
You just signed on June 2003, so the timing must have got a few folks wondering if you were someone else posting under a ficticious name. Stranger things have happened on the world wide web. Nothin' personal though. I'm sure.
Welcome aboard, stop in for a brew when you're out this way.

I don't get to this site often but when I hear or see the name Sam asscoiated with Letterheads I think of Samantha Bork. She use to be on this site quite often. Maybe still is??? Like I said, I don't get here often. She is one great Letterhead and a great person.

You know what? At the moment, I'm really not all that concerned about who Sam is or isn't. I see every new person as a potential Letterhead. Eventually we'll meet Sam at a live meet, or another Letterhead will drop around to swap stories.
That's the real magic of Letterville. We're real people that often know each other personally. As a result of our association with this website, most are constantly touching base with each other via phone or Letterville Chat. The bottom line is we all choose to gather here at this BB to exchange info, promote the Letterhead/PinHead Movement, and make new friends.
A new member, such as Sam, will have no problem remembering the few simple Laws Of Letterville they agree to respect in return for the privilege of posting here. Some have expressed a feeling that these laws amount to censurship, but I'm certain you all have some rules in your own homes too. Free speach is a wonderful thing, but if someone comes into my house and proceeds to insult my family and/or guests, they are going to find themselves censured right out the door. That rule applys to all...even those I have considered good friends in the past. Truth is...a real friend would never put you into the position of having to make a tough choice like that.
Gotta wrap this up and try to get some sleep. Welcome to Letterville Sam. Let's forget you have already accussed us of having puny minds and being Gestapo. If you decide Letterville has something to offer you, and are able to post your questions and answers without personally attacking our other guests, you will fit right in with the thousands of others that read this BB daily.
On the other hand, Letterville is not going to be everyone's "cup of tea." That's ok. Letterville is geared towards Letterhead people. Letterheads tend to be fanatical about their work, constantly seeking out new information and techniques that might improve their product and quality of life. Those that just make signs to make a living sometimes have a difficult time understanding our fanatical ways and make the mistake of seeing us as elitists. It's just not true. I hope you make that discovery for yourself Sam.

Don't let this get to ya. I've been around for over two years and still can't figure out these elementary school posts that pop up. Best thing you can do is read what interest you and if it bugs ya let it go while keeping your typing fingers taped to the table!! At least that's what I do. I don't know if I have ever ticked anyone off on this board but if I did it wasn't intentional. I wouldn't have made it as far as I have without the wealth of knowledge available on this board. And I still have a long way to go!!
Good luck and welcome!

SAM YOU PROBABLY ARE... I came along just before you turned up here in Letterville, which, I'm not sure 100% but, I think was before the other person left. I think it's a little hard to reckon that, unless some serious schizophrenia's at work here, that someone could have forseen that they were about to leave by the backdoor in a bad mood and plan ahead by coming in the front door asking a simple question, about which, I lost track of, did you end up getting a satisfying answer? Ummm... what was the question? Anyways... HI from Rik

Steve .. I read your comment. Thank you for it. I was on the chat line a couple of days ago. We were talkin and I said in a discussion of the bb that " then really this is steves house"
which kissmetina said yes. I then wrote " Steves house steves rules. I have no problem to with that . That is how it should be for your home. I dont have the right to make the rules in your house. A question I would have is if I paid the fifty dollars would I be rentin. If so would my right change? Just funnin.
But seriously, I know someone has to be the principal and keep everyone in line at some time. Findin that line in the sand isnt hard in most things ... but on this I could see it would be difficult.
The e mails i got told me a differnt story , one of people thinkin i wasnt a real person , some text from the chat that was really while perplexin to me , still chapped my hide. I do believe that puny minds and the letterhead police were out to find out who the hell was sam.
meltin that with some of the initial responces i got from my original postings , am I wrong?
I enjoy this letterhead post. I asked for help and a few did just that, others well the post speak for themselves.
Thank you to all who have welcomed me in your heart , deeply. You to Bob especially , your a funny man.

Hi Sam, If you havn't figured it out yet, you happened to show up on this board immediately after a large and controvercial fiasco that ended with a many bruised feelings and a regular participant being banned. A family squabble of sorts. They happen occasionally, but rarely as messy as this latest. In the past, banned parties have turned back up right away with new identities and flamboyant personalities, ready to spread some mischief by pushing peoples buttons. That's the atmosphere you walked in on.
Ironically, your opening questions mirrored some of the key issues invloved in the arguments that lead up to the big blow. The fact that you happen to express yourself abruptly in unfamiliar jargon (unfamiliar to us at least), then get quickly defensive when a couple answers weren't up to your liking, is reminiscent of another ploy disgruntled members have used here in the past to induce calamity. Again, not too often, but even once or twice is long remembered. Then your very next post was about another charged subject, the passing of clipart among members - a topic you wouldn't know has been the focus of numerous debates here, as it can involve copyrighted materials. It's another hot button.
So I'm not surprised some members may have raised their eyebrows or contacted you privately to confirm your intentions. I hope by knowing some of our background it'll help you put our behavior in perspective for you. We are good people who welcome new participants warmly. We're also, as a group, a little sensitized lately, I hope you understand. You seem like a genuine person who is fairly recent in the trade, and very fresh on what our collective Letterheads issues might be. We have to remember that too, and both of us cut each other some slack.
I anticipate you bringing lots of color to your posts with your writing style. I'm already trying to figure out what you sound like and look like. In the looks department, so far I've got you in a cowboy hat and big moustache. For sound, Foghorn Leghorn..."I'm yardin' son, I say, I say, I'm yaaaardin'". (If I'm way off base don't tell me). I'll run into you at some Letterhead event down the road and find out how close I am. Till then, welcome aboard.
Now, I just have one question for you...are you absolutely, positively certain that you're Sam? Bwahahaha.

Thank ya for your reply . I still dont understand what everyone is so fired up about this benji paint . oh well. anyway I didnt realize the problem with askin for clipart on the bb until I got several e mails that said that was like throwin gas on a range fire. But then handin me a jug of it behind my back sayin good luck.
They were so good pieces too i am going to use one of them. Do I look like a cowboy ? you bet.

Sam, it's not the Benji paint that caused problems, it was the tone of the discussions that flamed up around the subject. Apparently there were some ill feelings harbored between a few members that had been brewing for a while, and got ignited. It could have been anything that set it off. The bottom line is, it wasnt you.
In all fairness, I should warn you about another potential 'snake hole' in these parts. Collectively, we, as a group, place a high value on design, craftsmanship, and striving to produce work that stretches our creative and artistic boundries. This movement was founded by some of the most inspiring artists ever to grace the trade, and they set a high mark to emulate.
One of the things we struggle against is the influx of vinyl franchises and a tendency toward a 'quicky-sticky' mindset that threatens to water down and cheapen our value as artisans - a value that we have fought hard to elevate. Our slogan is "Keepers of Our Craft", not "Cheapers of Our Craft".
Don't take this the wrong way, but from your company name Stick Um Up, and the unfortunate timing of your introduction, your posts could be interpreted with an attitude of "Signs is just signs, slap 'em up and get over yourselves"..."I'm askin the questions here, if you dont want to help me, go wade in it". The exact attitudes that make us cringe. Perhaps we can give you the benefit of the doubt that your introduction was not meant to be contentious, it's just your Texas lingo, but from our perspective, you kind of came in here with guns blazing, ready for a fight.
Now that we know each other a little better a cyber handshake may be in order. Welcome to Letterville Sam. There's no snakes here, just some good folks who are momentarily jumpy and slightly gunshy. Once you're here for a while you'll notice certain topics and buzzwords (and individuals) that need extra tack in approaching. Many of us have been here a long time, been over those bumps, made personal bonds between mambers, and developed unspoken ettiquetts in our responses. In the future, if I see you stepping in the proverbial poo, I'll assume it is unintentional, and assist if I can. Fair enough?

first off i dont have problems with benji paint i have a problem with avery vinyl . it was a stickin problem. I was looking at all aspects.
As to what you have describe as some agitated members going through some stuff , thats your deal. The bottom line is that on a simple question i was summarly question in an unacceptable manner.
As to you percieved value as artisans ... only you can cheapen your craft or self worth. My name is what i do I stick um up . I dont do fancy graphics or inlayed gold leaf , i am in the market of construction signage. I have acknowledged in writin in this bull board , that i am no michaelangelo or picasso . I do know that I what i make is good. Its install plumb and level . I pride myself in that. I look at even fancy signs that have been install crooked or unbalanced . I never said signs is signs i said just peel um and stick um in regard to application of vinyl. do not take my words out of the context they were writin please.
in regard to your statement of wadin in it . That was written after several people e mailed me with some words and thoughts that made what was going on make sense. I did not create that pond for ya all that were dippin in it. Do not misunderstand me I am not includeing everyone or namein names. There is no sense in that.
In regard to your statement of givin me the benifit of the doubt .. i guess that is now and not before if i understand that correctly. When you use the term we are you talkin collectively or just with you voice? I came in with a question. What i got was a fight . I never walk away if its not right in my conscience. I try to never make personal slanders of people . If you do something then you do something . Fess up we all make mistakes. (almost spelled that the meat way)
Finally in regard to the proverbialy poo , before one starts to point fingers it would be a good lesson to look at one's own shoes first.
Thank you for your welcome I hope we can be friends.
Dave nitrofish is the best . hands down i have alot of stickers if ya want any. I put um on my 57 monster 4 x4 painted champain pearl pink.

Welcome to letterville... I think I tried to say that before, but if not, there you have it.
Now, on you recent reply to Joe...
quote: In regard to your statement of givin me the benifit of the doubt ... ...When you use the term we are you talkin collectively or just with you voice?
The way I read it, one man's voice can't (& wouldn't try to) speak collectively for your letterville neighbors here, but the "perhaps" in there makes it seem like he's speculating collectively.
quote: Perhaps we can give you the benefit of the doubt...
And perhaps not. In fact my one voice says your introduction, on this here thread, was meant to be contentious, it's notjust your Texas lingo, and from my perspective, you didcome in here with guns blazing, ready for a fight.
I read your "New to the biz" thread, & I saw the "fight" you refer to. Here we are on June 15th a full week later & you are still posting about that...
quote:I came in with a question. What i got was a fight.
quote:If you do something then you do something . Fess up we all make mistakes... ...Finally in regard to the proverbialy poo , before one starts to point fingers it would be a good lesson to look at one's own shoes first.
Maybe some stray shi+ was strewn here by others last week, but now you gotta fess up Sam. I don't know if it's on your shoes or not but I think you're dragging it into a new week when it's really a tired old topic that you should really move on from IMO.

No need for the fire hose & water bucket...Sam probably knows that Doug (benefit of that doubt here) didn't take into consideration that after several email/phone calls from people asking "just who are you really?", Sam most likely felt the need to address the issue publicly...kinda get it out in the open so to speak so he could better exlaine his line of thinking. His first post "new to the biz" started on the 10th...followed by several days of apparent inquisition behind the scenes...so to me, a response to a lot of that the next day, wasn't all that out of line. The fact that people are still feeling the need to inform Sam of what is proper and acceptable on the board, 3 days later, is not Sam's doing. The fact that this topic keeps rolling along is that when someone says something to you, it's only polite to respond...even if they don't really want to hear the response. Even tho Sam's style of type/speech is different, what he has had to say has been pretty understandable. To borrow a few words from Nettie, he was concise, elogent(well, maybe not ), forthright, polite(as one can get when one's very existance has been in question since day 1), witty, and right on the button! The fact that his first few moments here in Letterville were rather strained is regrettable. So, if you were one of the quick to judge crowd, just say you're sorry and leave it at that. Saying sorry and then justifying your actions isn't really saying you're sorry. I for one, was very embarrassed by the actions and tone of one of our Letterville members a few nights back on chat. A new person visited and was instantly given the 3rd degree. That to me is pure nonsense. It's a wonder anyone new sticks around. Good thing most people have a good sense of humor or something...it sure would have made me wonder what kind of people I had just decided to visit had I been that new person. Besides, as my wise old Grandma used to tell me, be thoughtful of how you treat a stranger...you never know what part they may end up playing in your life of lessons. Ok..that's it from how I see things this beautiful and bright Sunday morning after staying up WAY too late last night. PS... Doug, since when does 5 days a full week make? just funnin ya karen

Ah Steve, with all due respect, the horse ain't dead as long as the rudeness continues...that's the whole point...and from what I saw on chat the other night, obviously some problems still exist...and they are all inter-related. Some things, whether said with the utmost tact, or just plain spit out in not so tactfull language are still rude. Generally speaking,a lot of people are full of BS whether they speak the queen's english or pig latin...and the way I see it, that's why all this hassle is happening. So, if the post isn't your cup of tea, then don't participate in it and the parties involved will conclude it all the faster...lol..that probably goes for me & my 2 cents worth also.

Hey Sam. I tried real hard, but might not have been quite clear - It wasnt the paint OR the vinyl, it was unfortunate timing and a bunch of other subliminal things I mentioned that ganged up on you. Fair or not, there were reasons for what happened that don't reflect on your worth or integrity. I can't appologize to you directly 'cuz I didn't participate, but I hoped my explanations could take some of the sting out of it for you. It doesn't seem like it has yet.
I'm not a spokesman for this board. Any comments I make regarding US, are my observations of the general spirit of this group. When I wrote "Signs is just signs, etc", I wasn't trying to change your words or misquote you - I was giving you fair warning that if you don't acknowlege at least a passing credence to the significance of design in this craft, then that is how you will be seen. Thats the kind of poo I was talking about - walking into something uninformed. So now you know.
If you want to learn some things from folks with 20 and 30+ years in the trade, you are welcome.

well i will try to answer in the order recieved it easier to keep it straight.
Doug Thank you again for your welcome to the bb. The great thing about the U.S of A is we can as people have differnet lines of sight.
You now say that i came lookin for a fight. I came into it with guns blazin .
I look at it that i came in with some questions, pretty simple ones too and thanks to the emails i have recieved i have found my problem.
What i said later was i got a fight right from the start.
I have stated before i dont walk away from something that isnt right. Even if i get my butt whipped if i believe it ..I am there.
If i am wrong i will apologize till the sun goes down and mean it.
I am tryin to answer whatever post i get. I have not added just responded. much as i am doing to your post now.
I dont think you are tryin to start a fight but from where i come you r pushin pretty good.
and finally yes i am sure that i am wadin in it with everyone else. but i make sure i change my socks every day.
to Jannette. thanks for sharing joes opinions and words with me.
as to the second part of your post i have had far more positive help and information from many people on the letterhead site.
And to Joe again.
I knew you were not the spokesman of the bunch ..I just wanted to to know if you knew. I am glad to now know that you have the pulse of the people however.
You did change my words, you did change the context of what i said for your points which were not correct.
I have stated there are many talented people on this site. I have posted to those people . I truly appreciate the hard work and thought that people put into their work . I hope one day I might venture into those areas.
Your fair warning is not required because I can see with my eyes the excellent sign people that are on this site. My vision is 20/10 corrected .
Ray, u may be out of sequence i am not sure.
Keep that bucket and hose ready . Not quite sure what ya mean though.
Karen,
Thank you for your thoughts , I do know that on the rebound here I am guilty too however.
Bob ,
Damm that is one good lookin hat!
Steve
I like you hat too ... like any good cowboy if your horse is hurtin and ya cant help it you put em down.. as quickly and with as little pain as ya can.
lucky for me i drive a chevy.

Sam, Please stop telling me I changed your words.
quote:Originally posted by Joe Rees: your posts could be interpreted with an attitude of "Signs is just signs, slap 'em up and get over yourselves"..."I'm askin the questions here, if you dont want to help me, go wade in it".
I must say, I have never had to quote my own self on any forum before to prove what I did or didn't say. See where it says could be interpreted? The quotation marks in this case serve to bracket how you could be interpreted, not to indicate a direct quote from you. I didn't think that was confusing when I wrote it. I still don't see the problem if you read it the way it was written. I wasn't quoting you. If I do decide to quote you in the future I will do it with the customary UBB code like this:
quote:Originally posted by sam kinnear: You did change my words, you did change the context of what i said for your points which were not correct.
My points? My entire purpose in writing anything was in response to your complaint that people jumped on you. I was trying to clue you in to some of the invisible ground rules. That was my only point, so it can't be incorrect. Can we put this to rest please?
quote:Originally posted by sam kinnear: I knew you were not the spokesman of the bunch ..I just wanted to to know if you knew. I am glad to now know that you have the pulse of the people however.
I can't tell if the last part of that is meant to be sincere or condescending. Are you really glad, or having a go at me? I DO know that I take the first part as pure chain jerking. You don't need to test me to see if I know my place. In truth, my use of the terms "we" and "our" where I did were pretty damm accurate to the feelings I have seen expressed collectively by this board over my 5 years of membership. I may not be an official spokesman, but I do know what I'm talking about. Dismiss it at your own loss.
I'm encouraged to hear that you acknowlege the design side of the trade and aspire toward it at some future time. You're definitely in the right place for that.

Joe thank you for your reply. I understand now how you meant things.
I would however suggest this . If you write the phrase your post could be interpreted signs is signs stick um up . people will read that and assume that is what i said. If you suggest my post can be interpreted you should say exactly what i said and not speculate on what you think i am saying. I was talkin about application methods. not the craft. When you assign your thoughts on the possible interpretations of a inaccurate statement that you align with my name i am sorry but i cannot let that pass unspoken.
yes i was yankin your chain , you are correct. no doubt about . We see things different , thats ok . If this is the only stinky wind that pass between us , that would be great. I have responded to alot of post . technical one , material ones , and personal ones, What i have notice are alot of personal thoughts on a lot of personal subjects, which I think is great. I know my grammer is not the best nor my typin skills , or my creative sign skills. I am human just like the rest of us. I can be the brunt of a joke with the best of um . sophisticated methods i do not use , I am more direct.

Karen: Sam's "new to the biz" started on the 8th not the 10th.
Therefore this post started 3 days later, not one. But yes I could see his justification in blazing in here condeming all our puny minds, & gestapo tactics & because of that, my first reply here was acknowledgement of that justification.

I can't tell if you were still referring to me at this point Karen, but I can tell you I didn't see fit to bother judging Sam one way or another until yesterday (yes, a full week later)when I read his June 15th comment: "I came in with a question. What i got was a fight." My sympathy ran out on that issue & I am not sorry for saying so.
Sam's "strained moments" here may be regrettable to you, but what I really regret is how much he is enjoying milking it for more mileage then it could possible be worth.
Sam: I ain't fightin', ain't pushin', & ain't walkin' away either. just callin' it like I see it. I been known to "stir the pot" a bit myself, so no judging you harshly for keepin'on, keepin' on stirring it up, but no reason to pretend it ain't happening either.
