Since getting ill I've had more time to read the BB. I mean I've really read it, and I found something that does bother me a little.
Remember when Dave Grundy left the BB maybe last year, no? He left for a reason that I didn't quite understand till today.
I've been reading answers to questions about "how to" and "what should I do now" and stuff like that.
Some of the answers have been ones that I know work and work really well, but for whatever reason, the poster doesn't pay any attention to the right answers, but they take off in an odd direction. It's hard for me to understand that.

Have you noticed that my Dad doesn't answer all the questions like he used to? I asked him about that today and that's why. So this is what I have to say. If someone takes the time to answer your post with advice or a method, have the good manners to answer tham back, no?!? They took their time to answer you, so you take yours to respond!

Oof! I have too much time on my hands right now. I'd LOVE to go back to work.

I agree. I think that is a common courtesy that should be exercised more often. Maybe a "thanks all" reply at the end of a group of responses would suffice, & could serve as a notice if no further replies are necessary. Late comers with good advice may still benefit future visitors to that thread, but at least one acknowledgement from the topic starter would be appropriaten in my book.

I got 2 emails with questions the other day from this community. I answered them both with a small question of my own. For all I know they never got my email, because neither one wrote one word back. Yeah, it is a completely minor thing, but like Rosemary's point here, it is nice to have reciprocation

Just because someone asks for advice doesn't mean they have to follow it. You're right though, one should always thank everyone for their input.

Also, their are a lot of professionals here with much experience who don't get the same recognition as the multi-posters here who do.
Answering every thread with a half baked opinion doesn't get one the "gravitas" of those who have genuinely good and thought out answers.

Know what I enjoy the most? An actually update to let us know what they chose to do and how it worked out. I learn just as much if not more from those types of posts.

Rosemary,

So glad to see you back here at the Bullboard.

I think the world is moving too fast most of the time and we forget to say "Thank You" anymore. I am guilty of it from time to time, or I don't get back to a post after several more people have added their thoughts. I don't get to the Bullboard as often as I would like. Sometimes only once a week and I have missed many important subjects.

I think we all need to slow down a little and make sure we say we appreciate one anothers time
and help. There are so many good people here and though things in the world are quite stressful now days, we need to take time to point out the positive instead of focusing on the negative all the time.

I think a lot of the pressures in the world today are causing us more stress than we realize. There seems to be some short fuses going off more often on the bullboard and I think it is more about what's going on in our lives than what is going on here.

Or maybe it's just me.

Pam,
Pam's Signs

It is true, David. I won't disagree with you, and I feel the same way, Donna. I'd love to hear how someone's advice worked or didn't work.

No, its not just "you", Pam. I feel the same way. I think that before my problems showed up I was moving too fast too. Now I do take the time to answer people and to pay closer attention.
I don't know about stopping to smell the roses, but I do love the smell of Alox from a cast bullet that was just fired. Wierd, no? But then I like the smell of Hoppe's #9 too.

Many of the people reply to the ones who answer by email. Most of the time it is to say thanks, ond once in a while...they tell ya that yer full of s***! [Smile]

There are even people who won't ask a question on this BB, but will email, directly, to someone they think will know the answer.

Hahahahahahaaa....Rosemary...you forgot the smell of just fired black powder!!!!!!!!

Rosemary..If I post an "answer" to someone's question it means that I know the answer "definitely".

If I answer and add a disclaimer that it is just my "thought" or "opinion" on the question, then it is just that.

As far as me "leaving".... obviously it was short-lived and the reason shall not be mentioned. [Smile]

You are correct, however, that a "thanks" will always be appreciated.

That's right, Si! I know he gets emails with questions, but I'm always amazed when someone calls the studio to talk to him. It happens a couple of times a week anyway, and lots of times in the evening.
He always makes time to talk to them. Latigo learns SO fast, and Dad's a really good teacher. Lat knows it won't be long before he takes over the studio, so he listens to Dad, and Dad is very proud of him. He's proud of me too, but then I've always been his sweetheart.

IMHO

For the most part,
people are just wanting:
A. Their opinion confirmed
B. An excuse to avoid something difficult.
C. Someone to blame.
D. Someone to do something for them.
(that they are being paid to do)
E. All of the above.

why yes i totally agree with your thoughts you should show your appreciation and answer back .

but ya gotta look at how ya try to help someone who has a question. do u demean um , or critize um, do ya say they dont know how to write, just help if ya can . in a good spirit of helpin . not with a higher than thou attitude or downright rudeness. ya think

Makes sense to me Rosemary.
Pretty discouraging when I pour time into a detailed explanation and get a big fat zero back. Hello? Anybody home? A bulletin board has to be one of the hardest mediums to communicate through.
