Does anyone out there know of a program or such that would have fonts with an alternative "highlight" to them???
Meaning, like, Frankfurter Font also has a Frankfurter Highlight version that gives it a Glare appeal. I would like that for my letterhead logo and I use Haettenschweiler font for that.
Other than redrawing in highlights, I thought I would check in here first and see if ya' got any tricks, secret sites or advice concerning this topic.
I like to use photoshop for this kind of stuff when Ill. plugins(eg. eyecandy)are not an option. Not sure if this will translate to what you need. Even if you have to manually build/alter the letters later, it gives a good idea of what it should look like when applying certain effects...bevels, ect. when the final output is paint. Using the paths tool will allow an easy translation to Illustrator if vinyl pieces are needed.
Photoshop is the bomb! Love doing layouts with it although not always the best tool for specific jobs, in mho it is the most powerful when mixed with Illustrator.

To get the effect you want, take your text and give it an inline. Then duplicate the inline object, change the colour so you can see what you're doing, nudge it down and to the right, then trim the original inline object with the duplicate - leaving "highlights".
If you have trouble understanding that, I can illustrate it later tonight for you.
Sometimes it results in a few awkward spots that need to be tweaked, but that letterstyle would be an easier one for this effect.

There is a program called TypeStyler that you can apply different highlight effects to type. I believe you can download a demo of the program. It is made by a company called Strider.
