I have a 1976 model r60/6 fenders and tank to pinstripe. I have striped a few but have never seen these fenders before, they have a raised ridge down the center of the fenders (plastic not tin) about 1/4" high 1/2 inch wide. I have no pictures to go by and I'm not sure if I stripe over it or stop and continue on the other side. A websearch so far has not turned up images clear enough to see it. Any help from reliable well informed people, or better yet some place to find pics, would be appreciated, many thanks in advance.

If my memory serves me, you DON'T stripe over the "bump" Fat line on the outside....thin line inside, all around the perimeter of the fender, but it stops at the raised portion.

I would like to see factory validation for what is correct on that model BMW. I have been striping BMW's since the 1950's starting with the late Gorden Lindner, the first cyclist after the second WW to ride to Danbury Conn. on Sunday mornings with his war buddies and fellow cyclists for coffee, which of lately has become a haven for the "Harley" bunch. I have striped the ridged fender both ways, stoping before the ridge, and then for some, continuing over, which is why I mentioned in my opening statement about seeing factory validation for that application.

I have a '78, bought her new. The newer ones ( like mine ) are striped over the ridge as I recall but to be authentic these guys could answer, it's an open forum. It might also depend on the striper as they were all hand done, usually by a German gal. Maybe it depends if they were over the hump or not.

Hey Steve, I spent last weekend striping those buggers at a vintage BMW meet in Lee NH. Unfortunately, I didn't do any of that vintage (all older). I seem to think that the stripe went over the bump...but I suggest you go to my best friend's site...Barringtonmotorworks.com his name is Chris Betjemann, and he's a great guy...you will see lots of pics, and if that doesn't help, email him from the site and say we talked...he'll be glad to help.

I sure do appreciate all the info, it is crazy here with bike week and all that going on, and not a lot of time to chase this down myself. The overwhelming votes are for going "over the hump".... I even have some photos of bikes that still have the "factory" stripes showing it clearly. Bruce, your friends site is real nice, (I sent him an e-mail).... even some great pics of yourself there at the show www.barringtonmotorworks.com and all this time I thought you had retired, I'm glad you didn't. Do you remember the glass gilding you did on that "ribbed" piece of glass for one of your last meets back in the old Berwick shop? Seems like a million years ago.
