Another thread was musing on why certain individuals don't frequent as much as they used to. It got me thinking - I've been guilty of that too. There was a time I'd be in here hourly to follow some thread, and now it's once every day or two at best. It's no reflection on this BB, just other interests that have taken more of my time. But there is one thing that could help...
Another BB that I frequent (about tube amps), has a cool feature that never fails to draw me back into it - they send an email notification when a thread I have replied to get a new post. It's a UBB powered board very much like this one but there is a checkbox you can select when you reply to any topic that subscribes you to the email notification. On this board, if I want to follow a thread I have to manually look it up, which is kind of a hassle if it has fallen off the first page. Then I have to remember what the title of it was or who posted it. I can use search as a last resort, but none of that gets me back in here as easily as an email notification does. They come with a hyperlink to exactly the last read reply to any subscribed thread. If theres a way to nominate that Mr. Mayor, I'll vote for it twice!

We try to be as unobtrusive in your lives as possible. Look at the recent discussion on spam and you'll soon realize that many people see any unsolicited corespondance as evil.
Let's see what a few others have to say before we make a decision. Good to see you spending more time in town again Joe. How's that budding music career of yours going? I actually picked up the guitar a few times last week. Time I learned a few new tunes.

Hi Steve! No, I don't see anything other than 'disable gremlins' as an option when posting a reply like this. What I'd like is a 'email notification' option. That aint spam to me.
Cool on you for picking up your guitar. I try to learn new tunes all the time. (Heavy on the TRY!). I jam out on Tuesday nights now with a garage band, which is a strange combination of fun and fear. Usually more intimidation and embarasment, but last week the 'real' guitar player didnt show up and I got a nice groove going with the bass and drums on Kenny Wayne Shephard's "True Lies". Man I really like those greasy electric blues. Now that I have high speed internet (THANK GOD), I can cruise more of the guitar lesson sites and download music and licks and tabs. Sure keeps me out of trouble. And when I'm not cruising for music, the high speed connection makes visits to Letterville a lot easier too. What a concept!

Hi Jon. I could set my preferences to show more days but I'd still have to remember there was a thread I wanted to follow, then remember what it was called to look it up. The cool thing about the feature I'm talking about is it's user selected. If you dont want reminder notices sent, then don't click that option when you post. You do nothing different, it does nothing different. Cake for everybody!

If it's an option you pick what could it hurt? When I see the response e-mails (if I choose that option) I know what they are so they don't bug me. Another yes vote here.

Edge talk has that option and I tried it once. Steve is right, It can be overwealming, but I guess it is like anything else. Some will like it, and others will not. That's why we live here, I suppose.

I agree that this would be very handy. Especially if it is user selected. Anyone that does not want the extra e-mail can simply not click the option.
BTW... that is a "YES" vote.

I've responded to a few posts and then been away for awhile only to come back an extreme amount of time later to find some one answered me and I had dropped the ball. I'm with Joe on the mind dudn't work like it used to concept, and would love to select an option such as the one he speaks of. I noticed we have it on the initial post if we start a new thread, but I sure would love to have that option when I've replied to someone else's.

Right now have the email notification option if we start a post right? This option taking place on an individual post basis ... meaning something you check at the time of your post.
You are requesting a similar option (to be clicked on each occasion) to be summoned after any reply we make .... right?
That sounds good to me.

Adobe has "Bookmark" and "Subscribe " for each topic. I appreciate the way it works considering the traffic on the forum and of some topics..
I you select subscribe offer various ways : A. Read Subscriptions See new messages when you click on Read Subscriptions, and see new messages in your Message Center page
B. Email Get an email message the first time a new message is posted. Your preferences are to send full email messages, rather than just sending a link to the conference. To change this setting, click OK below, then use the Preferences button in the toolbar.
C. Email Digest Get an email digest of new messages, sent to you on a regular basis. (To review your digest settings, click OK below, then use the Preferences button in the toolbar.)
To unsubscribe entirely, deselect all the options and click OK.
The big advantage of those options is that give you some answer to messages found by people "later" that the first days after and this is sometime useful to complete informations
Once again, thanks Steve and Barbara for your efforts to bring us a wonderful tool to communicate together !

The one I am familiar with only sends one email, even if ten people replied to that thread after you did, you only get one notice. Inside the email is a link back to your last unread post on the thread so you always know your place. Following the link back to the thread renews your subscrition to it. If you do not follow the email link back to the thread it just dies - you get no further notices. I dont know how many BB options Steve has in setting up such a feature, but the way I've described works very well for me.
