been yarded land use signs for two years decided to get my own biz stick um up signs i bought a summa cutter rippin with vinylexpress expert... a status i dont think i will achieve for a few years anyway i have a current problem with the vinyl i was supplied with avery.
it will not stick to painted mdo any thoughts my name is going from stick um up to rip um off

Sam, This posting should be in the letterhead/pinhead talk section of this forum. You will get many more answers from there. trust me you will hear some people tell you off and try and talk you out of the biz and then others that will give you excellent constructive criticism and direction. If your skin is thick enough you can ignore the idiots and take the excellent information given here and make something of it.
As for your problem, you need to give more information as to what you coated the MDO with and any other pertinent information that might lead us to what your actual problem is. The Avery vinyl is a very good product. You may also find another posting regarding the use of Benjamin Moore paints on a similar application. As always you will find differing opinions on the use of that product, but maybe that is the same problem you are experiencing.
Good luck! If that doesnt work you can always use One Shot Paint

Ok. Let me add to this response. I'm a 20 year distributor for Avery. First with Universal, then factory direct. Before that it was 3M and Arlon. Here's MY bottom line.
I've been in the film business for 30 years now, Arlon having been the first for whom I distributed for 10 years. That means I began the FIRST year that vinyl films as we now know them were even available from 3M, who was the ONLY mfg at the time, Arlon being a converter since they had not yet built their coating line. If anyone is telling me they've been in the vinyl film business as we know it for 35 years, then they're full of crap for whatever reason they think they have.
I serve a large number of mom/pop shops in Montana. I have never experienced a film failure due to the FILM in all of my time with Avery. I did experience it ONCE in a large, freak failure with Arlon. Not once EVER has one of my customers told us of a film failure. We also happen to be a very large user. Are there certain paints that do NOT lend themselves to film adhesion? ABSOLUTELY. Both in the oil and water based paints. Why? I don't know. Do freak failures happen once in a blue moon? Yes, they do as they do with ANY mfg of ANY product. You think the rep has all the answers? He doesn't. Call the lab at Avery. Talk to one of the techs there. Sing the blues to him/her. They'll tell it like it is. In the meantime, look at you own installation procedures and techniques before you arbitrarily rip a product. Go to the factory before you tear them a new one here on a open forum. How would you like your customers to take out a full page ad about a problem with one of your signs, or spread it all over the net before coming to you directly?

wow to those who had a nice welcome to me i thank ya. For all you that have a wrong frame of mind here .... i said i have been installing (yardin) is what we call it signs for two years i am new to the business i am not a expert on vinyl . To the one person who said i have been in the business for thirty five years i would hope that your information that you have expressed on your products will be more correct.
as far as the other comment of a foul wind you all need to get so help. i am havin a problem with my vinyl stickin i am a good painter but as i have stated far from a expert vinyl person.
as to my company name it is 'Stick um up signs if u read and understood what your eyes see and not what your mind may be telling you i said i did not want to be know as rip um down.
In Texas we try hard to speak kind and tell the truth. I need help not jackass comments .

Try one-shot lettering enamel. Its the one thing the any vinyl will stick to.

I have used benji . its ok but i use speed dry enamel from parker. It just dries so fast . Now i dont seem to have a problem with Gerber or the arlon the orcal i had a little discussion with on a few ocassions.
Pierre i meant no disrespect to your products ..didnt say they were bad ... said I was havin a problem. I reread your note and geez if we were in Texas we be scrapin in the lower fourty. I need to tell ya it bothers me when someone says things that i was suppose to say when i didnt. I am not gonna go as far as saying your lyin but your info needs some attention . as far as understanding me i hope we can be friends

One-shot will spray. Thin with mineral spirits. I would also add a small amount of One-shot 4007 Hardener.
Flat stuff I usually roll on straight from the can.

I don't believe he ever said he'd been in the biz for 35 years..so how do you stand by your statement? Not trying to be difficult, just that portion of your first post is what seems to be the point of contention...maybe you can clarify why you said it?

Sorry. I had to wait till Rosemary logged off. We're sharing the same computer this weekend.
I wasn't referring to Sam. It was some other visitor a week or so ago that said he had been working vinyl films for 35 years. Not possible since the first films weren't even wide webs. Just pinstriping films for the first two years. Sorry for the confusion. I corrected the post.

wow went to bed early cause i get up at the crack of dawn. I love the early mornin air. Brings hope. anyway pierre i said i would not go as far as saying you were lyin i just said your information was off concernin me and your first post. Sammy, I know he wasn't talking about you at all. When he said his information was correct he was talking about the vinyl film part of it. The correction was for not meaning you in that 35 year stuff, no?
