I was in a local art supply store and they have three different versions of a Pantone book, it's not the colortones book that I wish I could get my hands on but its something you can use to get formulas. If you would like, next time I stop in there I will try to find out more for you. The colortones book has been discontinued due to the maker of it dying and nobody continuing to make it, or so I'm told.

Thought I had one but I looked and it's a Color-Aid Swatch book from 1962. Still looks brand new. Has a price of $5.50 on it. I've really got too much of this crap.

The Colortones book allows you to mix (albeit limited) a number of PMS colors using lettering enamels only.
Many PMS colors can not be mixed with lettering enamels due to the transparent characteristics of many printing inks.
Chromatic did try to address this issue with the introduction of the transparent base colors back in the late 80's. There were some neat effects you could do with them.
I am not sure if the Colortones book is still avaialable. It was available through SignCraft.
Hey, I am a know-it-all, after all... LOL!

I'd like to have more than the one I have. I suppose there might be a few on a shelf somewhere. Last time I checked, SignCraft still had a couple. There were two books, one was entirely florescent colors. Lyn Carr was the man that did those, and he's on the wrong side of the grass.
