I see many of you have web sites and I am Currently working on one. My question is after you had your web site up and running did you notice an increase in sales. I know web sites are good marketing tools and aids just curious if they really help you or just a gimmick

Not really, but I did get a $6,000.00 order for architectural signs from a large sign company with 50 employees, because their client found a particular cubicle sign he liked on my website. (I am a one-person shop, so I felt improtant for a day) I sent Scott Signs a order for $2000.00 worth of signs & laughed all the way to the bank.

I like to post color proofs of clients layouts & then send a link to the site. Some folks don't accept HTML email, or don't have the bandwidth to tolerate the download time, or have too full a mailbox to recieve the graphics. By just sending the link, my clients can save a trip downtown to my shop, & since they have already paid a deposit there is no problem releasing the drawing. This also gets some of them to check out the site, & maybe learn about other services they may not have known I provide.

My website is my only storefront and so far this week I've had 3100 "walk-in" customers come in to wander about the "showroom". Not all of them will contact me to have anything done (whew!) but the ones looking for custom and unique items will.

i use my website more as a "first impression" to the potential customer.(my URL is in my yellow pages ad as well as major search engines, go to your favorite search engine and type in Mark Fair)
i have had a lot of "i looked at your website and i like what i see."
in my opinion most of these potential customers have been expose to my work on the net before they decide to call and ask about a design or sign.
i also use my site as a sketchbook(me being a one man operation, i am not tied to the shop as far as the customer coming by to look at sketches.)
overall i have found the website as a valuable sales tool.
if you build it "they" won't neccesarily "come", you must do some self promotion.(get the word out!)

I basically use mine to show potential clients my work. I've gotten a few nibbles but no real jobs out of it. Of course I've had quite a hassle with my hoster (he put my domain name in his name which made it difficult to get it back). Make sure you get yourself as the contact person on the domain account or you'll have problems like I did.
