well....bye.

I have had a crappy day today, and as many know I KNOW what it is to post controversially. I have had to take my licks and apologize when needed.

What you wrote, Ted,( and I have not commented on this until now anywhere)was devisive, inflammatory, and unwarranted. And that is all fine and good. You can post what you want, under the auspices of the Shortreeds.

But now you are offering a tearful wave of the hand, or a growling curse and a bird....either way just remember YOU started this. A match and gasoline fumes....abortion and a discussion forum as divided as this, same result: Explosion!!

and you wanna whine cause you poured the gas, and struck the match and got caught in the blast?

give it a rest......and try posting something a little less....toxic.

Barry

Don't take it personally Ted. Sometimes I have to make hard decisions. It's not often that I remove or block a post. In this case I chose to let your opinion stand, allow a couple opposing views answer you and then end it before it got rolling.

I know you no longer support the manner in which I run this website. At one time you were a big fan of Letterville. Your posts made us laugh and pause to think. What happened to change your views?

What a very few people fail to realize is that this is my online Letterhead Meet. It's actually Barb's, but she lets me help her out. As hosts, we have the right and duty to insure all have a good time and hopefully go away a tad smarter each time they visit The Letterville BullBoard. I believe I am a broadminded, very tolerant person. We even managed to make it through the US elections in one piece. In this case, I made a decision to not get into a debate about abortion here. In the future I reserve the right to do the same with other no-win topics that divide us.

Now for the good news Ted. It's time to sweep out the hen house and break out a couple of blankets. If you will have us, Barb and I plan on dropping in on you next month. You always promised to show me the desert and I have decided to fly out to see you. Please don't bury me out there with the ants.

Steve...I have been around here as long as Ted, if not longer. I always used to enjoy his posts, because I had to read them about 3 or 4 times to get the underlying meaning. I missed him when he went to the desert for a month and I did miss his posts for long time until recently when he started posting again.

But then it hit me, just as it did you. Ted hasn't ever posted a topic that was sign related, that I can recall. In the old days, 3 or 4 years ago his posts were "fun". Now they seem to have a "nasty" edge to them.

I, like some here, have posted or replied to posts in a manner that wasn't very nice in the past. And probably will in the future. But most of us also, generally, post messages that are appropriate and helpful as well.

I believe your closing of the "abortion" thread was a wise decision and I applaud you for that.

Keep up the good work buddy!

Civility is the grease on societies wheels.

Some people just need to get on the lift and have their fittings refilled once in a while.

I will never post a topic of political or moral values, especially to those with the motto: My mind is made up, Don't confuse me with the facts. - I chose instead to make my position known in the only place it really counts - the voting booth.

I will however, continue to profit from the signs and banners of those who chose to have thier voices heard only in the streets.

You mean you guys are upset with this guy, my old buddy here. Well I will be first to say sometimes I really dont get into certain posts mainly cause of their nature, and like this one I will keep my thoughts again. But for some of you who have never met ole TBUK in person is like meeting another person then what you read on the BB. He's a true sign warrior, he's been around for sometime. and he has alot of heart. I know, he helped me when I was on the road. and if he was ever out this way he knows he has a place he can come out too. Hasta la Vista...

Thank all of you who have taken the time to respond to this post and the topic in general...

As a cover statement let me say that I enjoy my work in the Sign industry, I do not worship, it nor do I LOVE it,,,, To me it is a job that I ENJOY,,, as a TOOL to make money to do the things that I really want to do..... 30 years ago I decided that it was better than HOT TARRING a roof or working in a ship yard......

I am DAMN good at the type of signage that I do, and have a customer base that goes back the full length of that 30 years....

AS a letterhead I openly share any info I have regarding this industry,,,, up to and including prices...I will get several calls a year on how to handle or price a job... and if I have the time I usually ware out the caller with info.....

However I find that Most of the request here are rederick or just plane BULL, and seem to come from a position that the letterheads are just ole cows hanging around the barn waiting for some LAZY NewBee to come milk (THEM) for information,, so they might fill some worth.....Totally incorrect !!!

I operate somewhat different in this industry,,, I WORK IT TO MAKE MONEY..... perhaps the above statements of truth as I see it... HAVE limited my ability to respond to SIGN ONLY post..... Believe me,, there is not enough room on Steve"'s server for me to dissect my interself for you all to come to an understanding of my Total ...and you should not half to.....

I am here as your brother, not in flesh,,, but in commodity and sprit...I bring to the table MYSELF...and with that bring the thoughts and ventures of over 50 years...

Yes I have brought Laughter, anger, and tears, but I have brought,,, neither a snake or a wolf,,, I have sat down with you all as Ted, TBUK as I was tag many years ago...

In doing so, I have been told so many times that (when) you see that Tag that ya can bet you will be going for a ride, that your interself will not be allowed to sit by as an idle bystander,, that even if you choose to not respond to the post,, you have read it and it is NOW a part of you,,,
And you will speak of it to your friends, wife, children, or whom ever,,,,...

Do I care if you like me,,, Sure I do,, and In a disagrence, I am the first, or second to admit to agree to disagree.....

Let us NOT make this experience a negative"""",,
for I am one of the First to be LOCK, it is with pride that I except Steve's decision as righteous...and I have pave the way to a better site for the Mass... no longer will anyone have to put up with the Ideals of another..... Perhaps from this day forward, this site will be free of all personal thought, ranting and ravings of religion, banging and pounding of politics, and the screaming of gun caring thugs who frighten the meek....

The post I made was LEAP upon as a NEGATIVE,,, by those who were frighten by the subject matter... I understand,,, I had hope that we were mature enough to decuss it... I Opppps,,,

I have received more mail on this post then perhaps any other in the pass,,, and with total honesty I will tell those who were frighten that MOST of them were of a positive nature....

You see that post was about the treatment of women though out the history of the United States,,, YES it ALSO contain abortion,,,, sorry NOT""" for that,,,, is also a part of the American women's History.....

Let us move on from here......I do NOT believe I have cried"" or bitch,,, I have NOT stated that I am PISSED and that I am leaving,,,,, I AM HERE,,,, and as I have stated I WILL post when I can find a SIGN RELATED spot to jump in....

LET IT BE KNOWN, though... that I am ((SADDEN)) by the tethering of my quill..

For those who wanted a table free of riff and raff, and without the spice of life I believe you might have prevailed....

Steve: I have taken nothing personal.... cept your remarks that the post was made to separate the mass,,,, you could have E me or Called on MY dime to state your feelings.... but you did what YOU felt was best for YOUR site... I applaud you for that... and that ONLY...\
maybe Steve, just a thought, that It is not the speaker that has CHANGED but rather the audience.......Twain,TBuk

Well, I love controversy. We all know it's the controversial posts that run into the 40 to 70 response counts... But like anything human, the more humans involved, the more awkward things get.
I am the LAST one who would admonish that we all "just get along", but... Ted, PLEASE, don't bury Steve in the ants.

I agree that some of the posts that are started are just like putting the match to the gas can. You know what's going to happen as soon as you hit enter.

When I read the posts I make a decision whether this is a topic that I choose to participate in or ignore. If I participate then I will be ready to take my lumps if people don't like my views. If I ignore, then maybe it's my loss for not having an open mind to other peoples opinions. It's a choice that everyone of us makes everytime we read a post here on the bullboard.

Although I don't condem our Mayor for locking the post I do beleive that he has left the door open to be the judge and jury on what topics should be censored. Do we lock all off-topic or non-sign related posts from this point forward, or just the ones that some people feel "pasionate" about? I don't mind any of the posts despite contrary views, that's what I find unique about this site. We, as a community, get know and understand our sign friends a little more as people because we can see more of their personality when they are passionate about a topic.

Thank you TBUK for having an opinion and expressing it.
Thank you Steve for having an incredible site which brings us all together.
Thank you everyone else for responding to posts, because that's how it works.....

The preceding message is just my opinion and in no way did any animals get hurt in the process.
Have a great day, I know I will.
Steve

HEY! I happen to like TBUK and enjoy his posts! Like Mark said, if you don't like what he writes...DON'T READ THEM!!

I would hate to see this board become sterile and dull! It NEEDS humor and contoversial stuff to keep it interesting! Do we want it to become:

Why not start a new forum where if an off topic post starts to get too heated, or is so from the beginning, it can be moved there and people can post away and argue (or have an intelligent discussion) as much as they want? I'm saddened when I see people fighting here, and I think that it scares other sign makers from participating and/or bothering with the BB at all. That hurts us all when they don't get involved. ...and don't forget that this is a source of income for Steve and Barb.

That way the people who want to finish a discussion (or beat it dead as I see it many times) can feel free to do so. It won't be censored as many people have come to see it, and the main discussion area will remain relatively civil. Relatively being the key word.

Of course, it's understood that with so many different personalities that not everyone is going to get along. Things have gotten down right nasty here in the past though, and I'd like to see that stop. Talking about religion, politics, guns, elections etc. is a healthy exercise... but it is also a source of combustion to continue the metaphor.

Just a thought.

If this bullboard was limited to just topics about sign stuff I wouldn't be here. After all, I sold my sign shop over a year ago. What brings me here is not just the sharing of information, but the sharing of thoughts and spirit. I like the idea of setting up a separate board for the political, religious, gun control, and other highly debated topics. Maybe it could be called the Civic Center For myself, I enjoy reading o/t "debatable" posts, even if I don't agree. I'm not so self-centered that I can't respect another's opinion, even if it differs from my own. It gives me a broader view of my world and how others think. In regards to inflammatory posts, I think the problem isn't with the subjects being discussed, but with the wording of the posts and the reactions of those reading them and responding to them. WE HAVE CONTROL OVER HOW WE CHOOSE TO REACT. When we disagree we can choose to ignore the post, we can choose to enter into a respectful debate, or we can choose to insult or otherwise denigrate the poster. My advise is that if a post is offensive to you, click your back button and find a subject more to your taste.

I agree with Kelli.

It's not the content or the topic of the post that's harmfull. It's the manner in which an individual chooses to converse on the bullboard that can be harmfull.

Debate, argue, mind-wrestle each other, just do it like adults and respect that we all have our own opinions and of course we all feel that we are the right ones in the argument.

Have fun with it without getting too serious, it's just an opinion.

Steve

You are very right!
Mr. S.King.
I have thought about something and come to this board with both barn doors open...
Not the thing to do., as others have a voice in the matter and not all counts unless at the polls...
I myself, like Free Format in postings but others and I mean "The Mayor and Wife" has the last say...
We the People will work this out to the format it should be in..
But for now Let help each other and have some FUN!!!!!

In this case, I agree with Steve's decision. After all the crap that went on in recent months, I'm not too eager to see it repeat itself. Unfortunately, there are those who can't join in a spirited debate without getting personal. Heaven knows of all the hateful e-mail I received during that time because of my stance. And, just when things began to settle down and get back to signs, another politically hot topic is posted.

And you all know how much I love to debate politics.

Anyhow, I think Steve did the right thing. I lost the friendship of someone here who I greatly respect over this kind of stuff. I don't want to see the same thing happen again with me or anyone here. Its just not worth it.

Hi Tbuk, i was really surprised when I came back from holidays and found your christmas wishes in my email. I thank you for that. In your post and from memory I think I wished you a happy christmas and said try not to be so cynical in the new year. Well, the reason I said that was because I had lost 3 people very close to me in the first 3 weeks of December including my old Dad. I sat back and had a think about life and thought nothing is worth getting upset over any more. I have noticed a post on the board at the moment from signchat who uses a hypothetical situation to demonstrate a point about living every day to the fullest but he seems only to be getting negative comment as well because he runs another board.
Cheers Dave and thanks again for your greetings. :0
