Got another call today about sponsoring... a demo car. This is the second person who has picked my name out of the phone book and called, wanting me to sponsor the car they're going to destroy in the demolition derby. I thought it was bad enough with race car drivers wanting a free ride. The first one wanted me to give them money so they would put my name on the car. I didn't even listen to see if this person wanted me to letter or give money, I just wasn't interested. "I pay for my own hobby and think everyone should do the same" Maybe these people will tell the rest of their cronies to quit bothering me, I ain't gonna give no one nothing.

AMEN my sign sister! I get many "opportunities" to donate and sponsor too. Today it was a golf cart for a chamber event. Last week a patrol boat for the Riverkeepers. Before that, it was a multitude of race cars. You do get sick of it. Your point is well taken..I pay for my own hobbies, so should they.

The only thing we 'sponsor' is my 10 yr old daughters quarter midget race car. And I didnt even put our name on the trailer yet(shame on me).
Oddly enough, you wouldnt believe how many customers asked if they could help sponsor her too when her car was sitting in the shop this winter while we were making it pretty!!

Chris, I understand your point, but I on the other hand think if you can find someone to have a good relationship with, it can benifit both of you. Yes, you cannot say "Sure" to everyone that comes down the pike. But, in the right situation it could benifit both of you and you might make a new friend or two.

I tell them that I will give them 10% off their order if I can put my name on it. I've had people take me up on it. I just figure who knows who is going to be watching and see my logo. Its cheap advertising.

Mark 4th of July week-end, Patti and I will be at the Back to the 50s car show at Cascade Park near Newcastle Pa. 3rd thru 6th. Find our red Goat and we should be close by. If you can't make it, maybe we can take the long way home and meet you for ice cream up tyhe road from your place. But I think you should bring the family over to see all the cars, there will be oldies bands playing too. Look out for a good time. CJ

Get 'em to sign a contract guaranteeing so many *paying* referrals by the end of the season in return for a certain percentage discount, and if they don't live up to their end of the deal they owe you whatever the discount was.
The boys that are serious about it will sign on, the boys that are only looking for someone else to subsidize their hobby will be scared away by a legally binding contract.
You wouldn't believe the emails I get.. 16 year olds with hoopty cars and audio systems wanting graphics on a sponsorship basis "because I go to a lot of shows and you would get lots of exposure.".. OK Bucky, you send me a resume' of your show experience and a list of trophies and I might consider it!
Ya just gotta learn how to deal with the idiots but there are some sponsorships that are worth it.
The old "If I can get a discount I'll put your logo on" line doesn't work for me. I quote 'em a price that includes my logo (cause all my jobs include my logo), if they don't want the logo they can pay more for it.
If they really want a sponsorship, well my terms are spelled out at the top of this post.. My money, my time, MY TERMS! I tell them where I want the logo and how big it's gotta be, not the other way around. They want me to sponsor them that means THEY're working for ME.

Mark, I talked to CJ tonight. That is Bill's vacation week, I'm going to try to get him to go up to the car show. Perhaps one of us needs to drag Jill along.

Hey Woman... Speaking of sponsors, Mark's buddy w/the busses, whom Mark is doing logos fer, wanted me to paint the bus a'la Spiderman. I said OK & was gonna have a few friends pitch in, etc. I said $450 & he about swallowed his tongue. I thought that was a good deal for completely "webbing" a bus & doing a bus name all cool, etc. He must not have...oh well, I'm too busy anyway. It would have been kinda fun, tho. I'll be in Mars on the 4th, the C of C is helping to sponsor a parade. Then it's down to Hampton Township, where I've been doin' the fourth fer 40 years. But we WILL all get together agin soon. Love- JILL
