Anybody familiar with "Sign Tools 3" software for Corel Draw. If so what is your Impression? I've been thinking about purchasing it to help my son get started in sign making. He has Corel Draw 9 now.

I've got Sign Tools 2- bought a few years ago. It was a good help with Corel, but now the Corel doesn't /won't drive the Camm1. I've reloaded drivers, & reinstalled Corel, and nothing. I'd say if you like Corel, you'd like Sign Tools, especially as a beginner.
Sigh Tools 3 has more features, and sounds better.
Personally, I'm not keen on Corel, it's just that it was the cheapest program that would operate the plotter at the time.
Nowdays I seldom use Corel.
Good luck with your decision.

Ian...Not wanting to change your mind or anything...If you don't like Corel then you don't. But I am curious as to why Corel will not drive your Camm1? I have Corel 11 running on a Win2000 machine and an XP machine and both will run the Camm1 perfectly from Corel. Could you let me know what is or is not occuring with your setup? I just want to update my own info for future reference. Thanks [Smile]

dave, you runnin your camm-1 from LPT-1? iam tryin XP on a seperate h/d but havin a problem with its regognition of my added PCI card LPT-2 port. in the device manage it says its working and no conflict. but open corel and try to output to plotter...(got the new drivers for XP)it just sits there....then i have to dump the print manager.
i didnt try the plotter to LPT-1, cause ive got all my other h/d's set with the HP printer on LPT-1 and roland on LPT-2. all other h/d are win98se and work fine. i also d/l a driver for the PCI/LPT-2 card...and XP installed it.

Not to sure how to explains this but here goes.
I have experienced the same thing with two software pacakges loaded onto the HD. One will cut to a port and the other would not ?

The reason I was given was ! The software that polls the port first controls it and as a result other software trying to access cant. It wont see the port ?

Maybe someone can follow on with this post and expalin a little better ? Brian [Roll Eyes]

I have SignTools 3 and find that it doesn't work very good. I bought it mostly to do shadows and get real frustrated when the shadows end up in pieces.

Hi Kurt...The Camm 1 we are refering to is the line of desktop cutters made by Roland.

Joe.. I am currently running XP on my laptop and I use it as my cutting machine. Obviously it only has one LPT port. My desktop computer is running Win 2000 with 3 lpt ports and I can switch the cutter, printer and (previously) scanner around to any port and have them all work fine. I do remember, however, that when my computer guy was building this machine the toughest thing he found was getting the extra LPT card with 2 ports configured correctly so that all three were recognised and workable.

Dave, sorry I've taken so long to reply. (work to do!) I'm running Win 98 se, and a single LPT, with a 3-way switchbox to the Camm1, bubblejet, and laser printer.
The Corel is version 7 called 'Select Edition', initially it was OK except for shadows on curved letters which plotted as octagons instead of being rounded.
Later I switched to Flexi which I've grown to like inspite of it not being as intuitive as it could be.
Now in Corel, if I outline a letter 0.001mm wide, and print preview, set the origin where you want, and Print, it just sits there and nothing happens. You have to go to print manager as Joe says and abort it. I tried the latest drivers from Roland- no difference, and I even tried again after a reformat of the hard drive a year ago and a reinstallation of Corel, loading everything from scratch. Still no go. Frankly, I've given up trying to identify the prioblem, except that some old files I used are handy and I wouldn't mind being able to cut from it on odd occasions.
Best wishes, Ian

i dont know what COREL "SELECT EDITION"is but i still use corel 7 version 7.467(most stable corel ever made)and i need to set line thickness in my version at 0.00005 and no other thickness will talk to the plotter.

Thanks Joe, I'll try .005. "Select Edition" was according to the salesman, Corel 7 without the bugs. It's version 7.467 according to the 'about' statement in the Windows drop down menu. It's from 1998.
