If I do a demo on woodgraining and marble, when would be the best time? Cisco Vargas and I are trying to figure a way to do one at his place in Fresno, (central Calif.). He says he’s close to the airport, that means close to hotels/motels, too, and he has room for a few RVs/campers. I can show several quick marbles, and a more involved one, also several woodgrains, and a couple fantasy finishes, show tools, materials & techniques, give a product handout, have hands on for 10 or 12 people, leaving with at least 1 project panel, maybe more. A 3 day demo, start Friday, late...all day Saturday...and Sunday until everybody goes home. Somewhere around the end of June/through July (probably not the 4th) - any interest in this? I’m thinking $250 to $300 per person.

Alternatively, I’m also looking into renting a space here - close to Los Angeles.

I need feedback ---

I think this is a magnificent offer!
If it could teach me how to make something as unique and beautiful as the "Terry -whythehell - Not" Panel you made it would be worth a whole lot.
I studied that one over and over when the picture was posted. I suspect what you can teach could then be a stepping stone for other creative endeavors.

I hope this happens, I don't know if I could fly across the country for it this summer, but I certainly am intrigued. Any photos of finishes you have invented? Or is that asking too much?

Any chance of doing an antique sign class Mikey? I'd love to learn your tricks on those. You should post some pics again.

I'm glad you asked some good questions there ladies, I wish I could remember where I put my password to load pics, Mike has sent me some of what he has done. I must say it is some pretty heavy duty art work! If you're into the world of faux finishes or aged type looking work, this guy can slam some stuff together that will blow your mind!
If anyone would like to volunteer to post them for me I can send you what he has sent me?

It's been a very busy morning, and I am working on finding a simpler way to post these than to make each smaller and post it separately....
For a start, for now, here is one of my favorites

Those wood cans are amazing! [Big Grin]

Being able to admire Mike's work first hand, I would highly recommend taking Mike's class for anyone that could.

(A little too far away for me!) [Frown]

This picture doesn't come close to doing it justice but here's another example of Mike's skills.

Thanks everyone for the posting, there is still more pictures to come.

Richard, I'll let you know on your question, not a bad thought though. There's a lot of planning involved, I was even thinking of throwing in some tricks on the "Sign Gold Embossed" leaf effect in reverse on glass, but that's in the air right now. So hang on and lets see how things go for the present moment, if you want send that address for the hosting.

I'm glad you got this posted, and am sorry I couldn't get it done. Another favorite is left off, so I add it here.
When I look at what you can do I am left wide eyed and shaking my head at wondering how you do that. I'm glad about your willingness to teach.

First, let me thank all the people helping me to post pics here - I normally have a world of trouble dealing with this site and lately I’m having ‘puter failings in general, besides. Aaaargh!

To answer Cheryl’s question; I’m OK with Antiquing, but I can’t do all 3 on one weekend and do them the way I’d like - I put Marbling together with Wood Graining because the tools and techniques are the same or similar - Antiquing uses a whole truckload of all different stuff. More people have been asking me about Wood than anything else. If it generates more interest I’m willing to consider some of each, but it wouldn’t be any where as intense, in the end result. I spread myself so thin! After all, we really basically get Saturday to play.

If there is more interest in Antiquing I’ll switch and do that one instead.

Among items on the list to demo are;

Wood - Oak Straight, Heart and Quarter Sawn, Mahogany Straight, Heart, and Crotch, Sycamore, Satin Wood, Bird’s Eye Maple, Burls, Flogging, Dragging, Chattering, Pores, Cross Fire, Knots.

Marble- Turpentine, Sponge/Brush Blend, Serpentine Green, White Carrarra, Black Onyx, Granite, Porphyry, Positive and Negative applications, Veining, Stones.

Special Effects - Smoke, Peat Moss, Bubbles.

Tools - Heels, Rollers, Cardboard, Sponges, Chamois, Cheese Cloth, Steel Wool, Metal and Rubber Combs, Q-Tips, Feathers, Erasers, Saran Wrap, Tissue Paper, Plastic, Newsprint, Air Brush, Check Roller, Various Brushes, Charcoal, Chalk, Pencils.

Handout - List of materials and suppliers, Books, Videos, and I’ll have the books to look at, but I’m not selling any product.

Starting out with quick tricks and going into more detail. I don’t know if we’ll get all this stuff done but we can strike a moral victory on it! At least it’s a list to choose from. I think sign folk will be more interested in the quicker methods so I want to be sure and hit those points first. I’ll have samples for show and tell, panels primed and ready, or you may bring an object to grain/marble if you like - we’ll all get dirty and wear each other out Saturday, and remember, the main thing is; Beer.

I’m liking the weekend of June 20, 21 and 22 - that would put us right betwixt Robert Beverly’s Cow Patty Stomp Down and the 4th of July. Next best would be July 25, 26 and 27, so as to miss the Double LetterHead Whammy, but be forewarned; when people say “Global Warming” think of Fresno. [Razz]

Very nice work Mike, you ROCK and roll and feather and comb and brush, hehehehe [Cool]
Antiquing would be my 1st pick. Ever thought of doing a book/video course for long distance fans.

Mike,
Us East Coast folks could probably make it worth your while to come here and put on a class. I would be willing to provide the shop and motel.
