Hi everyone,
a customer is asking me to use Permagrip for 4 feet letters on flat metal siding. Who is selling this stuff? How does it compare to HP vinyl, like Oracal 851, in price and durability?
I still think I should talk him into painting this, but he wants to have some numbers.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Lotti! Jon's REALY busy, so I'll try to help you out...

Permagrip is a GERBER product that is from 3M. Designed specifically for the EDGE, it is a 2 mil (premium) face film with an incredible LSE (low surface energy) grey blockout adhesive---available in white only. It's uses include Stainless Steel, Oily metals, powedercoat, textured plastics, etc.

Great to hear someone's asking for this stuff!---unlikely that it's required in this application however. What type of metal is the customer asking for this on? I'd say you're fine with a premium film as long as the surface is properly prepped and cleaned.

ND's SK RoadShow is coming back to Saskatoon and Regina the week of May 26-30th----keep your eyes open!

So far no one was able to tell me exactly what the finish on that siding is, but I found out why that person has specifically requested Permagrip:
Turns out that a vinylguy has given him a quote, specifying "20 year durability" for the Permagrip.
Oh brother...
Not to say that it isn't a good product [Wink]

Hi Lotti!

How's life treating you?

Permagrip is a great product that offers EDGE owners (and their clients) an excellent solution for some of the trickiest applications. (Ever try to stick regular vinyl to a "Blue Box", for example?). But you're right groan about what your client has been told.

Here's a link to Gerber's product page for Permagrip. There, you'll find a couple of PDFs that you can download and e-mail or fax to your customer. Life expectancy is 7 years vertical / 4 years non-vertical (yes, it makes a difference with vinyl too!).

Take care...and I hope we're going to see you in Regina when we roll through town on the 29th and 30th with the SK RoadShow.
