Sad sad day for us new englanders not to mention our brothers and sisters up north
I feel lucky to have made the stop last year just to photograph him.....
Him is the Old Man of the mountain that pretty much was the icon of New hampshire, it was on their quarter and on all their state signs. The old man was a rock formation resembling an old mans face and it crumbled.
This has got to be heart breaking for many to lose such an attraction so many an artist has painted the old man and now all that seems to remain is memories and some very vivid paintings & photographs

Growing up in NH I remember going up to Franconia Notch and having to stop and gaze up to the top of the mountain to see the old mans profile. it was a shock to me when I got a call from home with the news. it's like if the faces of Mnt. Rushmore fell off. I believe that the state has enough documentation of the rocks formations to reproduce a faux reconstructive surgery on the old mans face. I believe we could remake the rocks that formed the face out of fiberglass and faux finish them to look like the natural granite rock and fuse it to the remaining rock face. well, it wont be the same as the original but neither are silicone implants but we live with those just fine!
