I sent out an e-mail to all the stragglers last night. Many have contacted me, but there are still a few that I haven't heard from. I just need to determine if there is anyone that might not be getting a panel out of this.

I will wait another day for everyone to respond then I will add to the list

So far I haven't heard from-

1. Scot Reedy (I've been trying for a long time to reach him)

There are about 20 people left to complete a panel.

Terry

How many panels are still out? I am still waiting , and I know for a fact that other people are currently wanting to swap panels with someone, so what can we do? Must we wait for all the stragglers to start a new swap? It's too bad this has dragged on for so long...it's messed up getting some more pix in some magazines, 'cause they're all not in yet. Oh well. [Confused]

I finally finished mine at the Sand Castle Meet Terry. All I have to do now is wrap it and ship it to CJ Williams.

I hope that I am allowed in the next swap. I promise to finish the next one on time.

Still waiting and sick of it. Have E mailed the person doing it no response. So I'm about ready to forget it. I tell you what though if I took 6 months plus to do my panel It sure would of looked a lot better and I could have started over three times until I got it right too.I believe I'd rather swap with people directly or at least know who drew whose name from the start. This thing was suppose to be fun right?! So if there is someone out there who hasn't recieved one and wouldn't mind swapping again Email me. But if you can't do it less than 6 months then don't bother. Terry you've done a great job setting this up and hope that maybe someday this one will end!!! I'm done venting now thanks Roger

ok so I'll publicly admit I am one who never even started his panel. I had great intentions but more important things with higher priorities came first.

You may have whatever judgements or comments as to what you would have done, but unless you know what the reasons for that person to not have done the panel then please keep your comments to yourself.

If I had a choice ( which I had to many times ) to use my spare time to either make an income for my family or work on a panel for free, guess which one wins hands down.

I have not recieved a panel nor did I create one so Terry remove my name from the list. I know I already e-mailed you with my circumstances and had stated that I would be able to do it this week for my circumstances had changed but I'm tired of the comments and not to mention the personal guilt I put on myself for not producing a panel yet.

Please reasign my person someone who has the time and circumstances to do it.

and I publicly appologize for any hold up I created

nuff said.

I would love to participate in the next swap. I have seen several of the ones done in the last swap and they were awesome.

I held my tongue long enough. We all work and support our families. When you drive up the road everyday expecting to see a package on the porch and there never is one it's real disappointing. When you e mail people and they don't respond to atleast reassure you that one is on the way is there not enough time in the day to do that.Deadlines are set for reasons thats why they call them deadlines. I was warned this would happen and sure enough it did. I may sound judgemental But I don't care cause no ones given me a reason not to be. You don't like what I have to say skip over it if you feel like you need to respond Then seems you have plenty of time to make a panel.

I have to agree with you Roger. We all run a sign business and have families to feed, bills to pay....I had the busiest winter ever...but spent a few nights working on my panel. It was great fun! I feel bad for those who didn't get their panel. I absolutely love mine. Chris Elliot did a great job, and is one heck of a nice guy. When we talked on the phone, it seemed as if we were old friends.

Yah I expected responses like that from judgemental holier than though people who cant see past their own circumstances & faults

I stuck my neck out and admited my faults here so take a cheap shot while you can. I know my recipiant had similar circumstances, and in fact I had been contacted my self by my panel maker and for some reason he has some circumstances that prevented a panel to reach my door.

I'm ok with that
I understand. and do not judge him

so hold your tounge or NOT whatever, Roger your just a better man than me hooray you got it done and I didnt geee I'll take the tag of the letterville asswipe of the year! no problem!

So here I am with a bullseye on my forhead take your best shot!

To spare Terry having to say this again, I think the next panel swap will happen when someone steps up & offers to spearhead the next one.

Thanks again to terry for all the hard work & logistics on this one.

I think this is the right thread for the lessons learned from this one to be applied to refining & improving the way the next one is handled.

It is unfortunant that there are some who have not replied to inquiries either from Terry or their recipients. I think Bob & Karyn's ability to blast out a quick panel after being inspired by this swap could somehow be built upon into a resolution of this first swap. Those who have already begun a personalized panel or who are near completion should continue, but like Bob has done, if any others choose for whatever reason to relinquish their recipients names a volunteer may step forward to produce a panel.

Inspired by someone elses post I thought maybe an application to the next swap would be set for a specific date at which time only those with completed panels would apply. This would remove the "personalized for recipient" element, but no big deal since many participents had stated a preference for personalizing the panel relative to it's creator rather then to the recipient.

If a new swap were to happen like that, the resoultion of the original swap could be rolled into the same process. I would volenteer to make an extra panel if it was not personalized & was done at the same time as making one to enter into the next swap since 2 similar panels could be made simultanously & still be a unique treasure to each recipient. It would also be easier to offer up an "extra" panel when I would also be looking forward to recieving another panel from the "new" swap.

Bob. I am sorry you have had personal troubles and hope things get better. I dont think any one has a problem with you not getting it done as long as you contacted the person you were doing it for. My problem is with those who are ignoring everyone and will not stand up and say for what ever reason they are late or are not going to be able to do a panel.

Roger. I would love to do you a panel if you would alow me a few weeks to get one done for you. The only thing I ask is would you be kind enough to do me a small panel after you have gotten mine? I realy enjoyed the swap and would love to do one more.

To every one else that says they want in on the next one, call Terry and get a name of someone that has not gotten or is not going to get one.
The reason I am asking Roger is that he is in my neck of the woods. If I get his done I will get someone elses name untill every one gets one.

The way to fix this problem is to set a date send in pics of the panel then on the due date swap names of the peaple that have sent in pictures. the names.

This kind of guilt-mongering ****ing match is exactly why I don't volunteer for anything on this site. The same sort of bellyaching nonsense has accompanied the travels of banners, barrels, etc.
Try this: Go to a live meet, find someone who's work or style you like, and offer to trade a panel, to be done on the spot. That way, you can agree or not agree to do whatever it is you want to do while it still seems like a good idea, then get on with life without all this public whining and negativity.

I'm not having a war of words with no one. I'm not a better person than anybody.Nobody judges me worse than myself. My original post was directed at no one special just getting alittle frustration off my mind.I don't know about everyone else but I work on several things at a time. When I get bored or frustrated I move on to something else to take my mind off it for a bit.Everyone has a life and circumstances just like everyone has the right to say and feel what they want as long as it's within reason.I don't see any negativity in this post or name bashing.I didn't start this and I won't be taking any shots no matter where the target is. Ryan looking forward to talking to ya. Roger

Just to let ya all know what I have been up to and why my panel is not sent yet is this... I started it, then Christmas came, then I did a little more, then my Dad died, after a month of taking care of my Mom, then my Grandmother on Heath's side of the family died and now I am the "pit bull" for Heath's Mom during the settlement of the estate... so if NO ONE else kicks the bucket in my family for the next two months I should have my panel out the door exactly how I want it to look and not rushed to just get it done or slapped out to meet the deadline.

(Legal Disclaimer: I see tempers and emotions are high here again, so I would like to take this moment to say- I say what I mean and mean what I say. Do NOT take any of this as a "hint" or a barbed remark... if I don't like you I'll tell you. This post is all about me and what I feel and what I have been doing and how I think of my own actions.)

I don't know who it is I am doing this panel for because the paper with his name is on my desk out in my shop, but if it's you reading this... I am sorry to make you wait longer than a kid waiting for Christmas. I am trying to get enough time to get it done right.

CJ Williams you are truly amazing- I would like ya all to know that he not only did a panel for the guy he drew a name for, but found out somehow that that guy just forwarded his on to me because he did not have enough time to meet the deadline. I was totally ok with waiting as long as it took, but he wanted me to have a panel. That was sweet. It was also incredibly sweet for CJ to find this out and do a panel JUST FOR ME!!!!

It came in right before we high tailed it to Clear Lake for Grandma's funeral... I never truly got to thank him for that during all the caos, so I'd like to do that here. Thanks CJ! You are awesome! I have to admit I also have a fond place in my heart for Truckers too, so him making me the panel was also very special to me.

K, gotta run and catch up things around here so I can go "play" in my shop and finish my damn panel already. [Wink]

The wingwoman for the family members side of the Moon

P.S. Looks like CJ and I posted at the same time here... he got a private thank you today now that I have his e-mail address via his post below. And on that note, my e-mail address has changed during all my caos it is stefenie@comcast.net so if ya all are trying reach me... try this new one.

That's the first I've heard of a panel coming my way.
I'll be looking for it. I forgot all about this thing. The person I sent one to pailed out, so I sent one to some-one else and haven't heard from either. Oh well, can't wait to see it. Thanx

Maybe Terry could post the names of those that sent out a panel and didnt get one, and some of us could do a panel for them. I would do another one for sure. Now lets get on with the whining and bellyaching. [Smile]

If I had known there was going to be a shortage I'd have sent my second one to someone else...Instead I gave it to a friend.

It was a good time...I enjoyed it...I'll do it again...One day I'll be the one that gets bit...but hey thats the way life goes...not much you can do about it...bitchin makes no sense nor does any good.

Simple truth is the people that didn't this time...won't next time so just exclude those people unless of course they want to send a panel in ahead of time to make amends. Not too much to ask!

I hope someone takes charge of the next one soon...I know what you're thinkin...sorry can't do it this time...maybe in the future.

For now tho...thanks for the good times Terry.

Hi Heads,

The Panel Swap was a great idea. Terry should feel proud to have hosted this event. I'm thankful he did, and proud to be a part of it. [Smile]

[Frown] Sorry, Cam, I disagree. What went wrong, as always, is because there was not a "plan" in force from the very beginning to avoid the procrastination problem. And, about the comment you made of going to a Letterhead meet...well, did you forget: THIS IS A LETTERHEAD MEET...SAME AS ANY OTHER MEET.

People's lives change, or they just get "sign writers" cramp. It does show a lack of responsibility to not do the panel and never even bother to bow out early on.

When a paying job comes in...we have motive to do it, and it may not be the most artistic job in the world, but who cares, we get paid and go on.

BUT when some Letterheads have to come up with something original, that might be criticized, then a betrayal sets in and its a hard hill to get over. Unfortunatly some are not strong enough to overcome that fear. Some won't even just TRY to start. Another paying job comes in, and, well, that panel will get done another day.

I made my panel 3 times and threw the first two away. I kept saying: "This sucks, I can do better!" and started over.

I have a feeling that those who have not finished their panels are caught in a "loop" of wanting to finish their panel, but for the reasons above, just can't get started on their project.
------------nuff said

1. I think we should have this as a yearly event with the start date in early fall and the dead line of December 15th.

2. I think those that have not proven they can be responsible be excluded next time.

3. I think we should have a back up plan of volunteers who can step in and make one more panel to send off so as to not hurt those that were responsible to finish their panel.

The panel that was sent to me is a treasure, it hangs on my shop wall and I tell customers about it! Its GOOD BUSINESS. I view this project as business, as money and time were expended expecting an equal return on this investment of time and money.

That is why it really hurts, even feelings of betrayal are felt, and we feel like we have been played as foolish, when that expectation is denied.

I did my panel during business hours. Had I not recieved mine, I would have felt like I do when I trust a customer to pay me, and he doesn't.

Terry, if you read this...put me down to do a make up panel for someone. Maybe some others will volunteer also and we close this 1st panel swap honorably. [Smile]

Ahhh fer crying out loud, I thought I could rid myself of my own self inflicted guilt, dammit it didnt work. I awoke this woke this morning with this 10 lb gorilla sitting on my chest saying do the panel you skinny albino procrastinating bastard. Do it get get done now that you have the time. after my sunday ritual its off to the shop.

Terry, I will follow through with my last e-mail, I will work on it this week and if I dont finish I'll take it to mass meyhem. If you already assigned Jon Peterman to someone else so be it he'll just receive 2 panels [Wink]

Bob,
Dont FRET, there will be a few panels completed at Mass Mayhem, its sort of hard to make an excuse when your going someplace like that where its not a mandatory attendance thing like the rest of our daily lives. So if you want you can sit your ass next to mine and the two of us will finish our panels and maybe even get out the cattle prod or whatever it takes to get us to complete them there.

YES THATS RIGHT!!! mine isnt done after starting it about 25 times now. But alas I have settled on a design theme that theyre gonna have to like. If not they can just throw it in the toilet. My recipient has been patient and I have contacted them once. Hopefully they will see this posting here and their patience will see the virtues

Stefenie, Mark, and Bob. Thumbs up. It seems you guys feel bad that your panel has not gone out but that is cool as long as someone knows it is coming. I think everyone understands **** happens and Im glad you guys are still in this.

Some of you guys are going to drive me crazy. The idea of not allowing someone in the next swap if they were late or for what ever reason didnt get to complete their panel is crazy. I can see the post now [Eek!] The next one needs a due date, at that date any one who has sent in a picture of their panel will be put in a pot. We then pull names and every one knows who to send their panel to.If any one is late we can pair them up as the pictures of the panels are sent in. I would love to head up the next one if no one has a problem with that. The only thing is I dont want to start this one untill we get done with Terrys.

Well, Good Morning everyone! [Smile]

I see a few of my questions have been cleared up in this post.

This is now my list of "no replies"

1. Scot Reedy (he even got the cool box that Bruce B. made for him)
2. Terry Nicholson
3. Darryl Gomes (has confirmed in the past that he's still partcipating, but haven't heard lately)
4. Peter Berry (works with Darryl)
5. Timi Barrow (I don't think Timi has responded to any of my messages, but I was sure I could trust him to live up to his word)

So, there you go. If anyone can give me some answers regarding any of these people, let me know and I'll get them off the list.

Sorry to upset anyone, I just feel a responsibility to ensure that everyone who has made a panel, gets one in return.

I second the motion for Ryan to head up Panel Swap 2004!

I second the motion that the 2004 Swap be an exchange of panels that are completed prior to the name of the creator being submitted for the name drawing.

Terry's swap guidelines developed amidst the anarchy of lettervillians who are more prone to create long threads of interwoven & overlapping opinions rather then clearly defined group decisions. The only way that could happen, is that Terry, fueled by the positive response to his excellent idea, took the bull by the horns & assimilated the feedback recieved & made the neccessary decisions.

I think this can and will become an annual event that keeps getting better, but I think the first step to that is for Terry to "pass on the torch" to the next host. Whoever it is will have to take the ball & run with it & having Terry publically endorse his successor may be essential to us recognizing the next one as the letterville panel swap.

So lets all throw our various ideas & proposals into the ring, but Ryan or whoever else should step right up prepared to steer the herd, & at some point (upon recieving Terry's endorsement maybe ?)our new host should make decisions

By the way next time my own procrastinations set in I thinks I'll have to borrow Bob's phrase "...you skinny albino procrastinating bastard." It does seem to conjure up at least a 10 lb. Gorilla's worth of extra incentive.

Also, one last opinion of mine. Get a new host endorsed, get a new set of guidelines put in front of us, & get a new date for "enrolling" in the next swap. Encourage the conclusion of Terry's 1st annual swap, but don't wait for it. Stick with the date set. Participents who are not finished with swap one are not publically flogged or otherwise punished, but completion of previous "swaps" should at least be a pre-requisite for enrolling in subsequent swaps. The new swap enrollment date may just be the extra incentive needed by some.

The idea of setting a date, submitting pictures then drawing names is the only way another one could work.

As far as who organizes it the next time goes, I don't feel it should be up to me to decide. Perhaps anyone interested could chime in and maybe we could make use of the poll feature of the BB and have a good ol' election!

I'd also love to see a theme. I tried to get some ideas for this one but didn't get much response.

One idea that Rob Carney and I were thinking of is to compile a list of types of businesses in the town of Letterville and each of us pick a business and base our panels on that. Things like the Letterville Public Library, Doctor's office, Letterville Towing Co., flower shop, etc. Ultimately creating logos and signage for the town of Letterville.

I'd suggest letting this swap come to an end before we start planning anything certain for the next one though.

Thanks for everyones participation and support and encouragement! Overall, it's been fun and I feel, a success.

Terry just to clarify my suggestions, I don't think you should "decide" but I could see the value in your "endorsement" of a new host for a few reasons.

1. I remember reading that you wanted to step down from the responsibilities of spearheading the next one. Others may not have read that, so "the panel swap", an idea that is almost universally appreciated, is also tied to you.

If someone else is ready to take over & do the work, including making decisions for us all, people will want to know that it is, in fact, Terry's great idea taking on a life of it's own, & not just some "take-over" by just anyone.

This is a cool idea Cheryl.

It wouldn't matter if two or three people chose the same type of business becuase everybody has different ideas and approaches.

The ideas for businesses are endless and should make an easy go for another panel swap.

I'm open to any other suggestions as well! [Big Grin]

I will run the next panel swap. I have excellent organizational skills and I am enough of a no good prick bastard to deal with the stragglers... Not that there is going to be any this time around, right? RIGHT?

Besides, if you won't listen to me, I'll turn you over to Dana. Let me warn you, you don't want that. Trust me. That red hair is real. It ain't just painted on. It comes with the attitude to match.

Why do you think I have excellent organizational skills and I am enough of a no good prick bastard to deal with the stragglers? [Wink]

Terry:

Have replied to your emails. You've only sent me "umpteen" emails. Panel has shipped. Please take me off your "bad boy" list of shame.

By the way. I have never rec'd a panel nor have been given any update either. Go figure.
