I have battled kidney stones for the last several years, most just painfully pass on their own. The first one I had was 9mm ( Most people can only pass them up to 5mm) and it had to be blasted out.
Well I have more of them Ba$tards now and one that is stuck. They have been driving me crazy for more than 2 weeks now.
Tomorrow (wed.) they are going to go get them. Don't ask how, just use your imagination.
Thankfully the will use a general anistisia (sp?). One because who would want to be awake for that and 2 if they can't get them then they will have to cut them out.
I have had a total knee replacemnet and 7 other knee operations on that knee and I would rather combine them all into one go around and do it over as to have another kidney stone.
Think about me tomorrow, but not too hard. I wouldn't wish these sympothay pains on anyone!!!!

I've passed them on my own and had to have one "fished out". You won't feel a thing when you go in. You will be under a heavy cocktail. The releif of not having the weeks of pain is what you can look forward to.

I had two stones fished out and one more that passed on it's own. I seemed to have an episode every two years until about 10 years ago. Since then I have stuck to purified water and no hard liquor as well as dropping my intake of certain foods known to be bad, I haven't had any more. But any twinge of pain in my side sends me scurrying to the doctor for an x-ray to make sure nothing is lurking there. I know the excruciating pain all to well and recovering from the fishing expedition isn't a piece of cake either. Thank God they have ultrasonic blasters now but you have to catch them early enough before they get the urge to go travelling and get lodged in your 'drainage system'.(LOL)

Hi Troy, I'm with Curtis. I've had over a dozen of the little (and not so little) suckers in the last 20 years and the last one was the only one that I couldn't pass. The procedure that he discribes feels like a rubber band snapping you over and over again. I felt it for about 5 min. before I drifted off (Liquid Perkaset(sp.). Good luck...

Hope all goes well with your procedure,Troy,.....Wish I could say it was painless but I'd be telling you a lie,...Had several one summer and ended up in the hospital,at least 3 times,...I got to know that knife like pain in my lower back quite well and when I would go to the ER I would tellem to shoot me full of morphine or demerol asap and that usually relaxed me enough to pass them,...save the one they had to go inside and get,...

My mother was an Army nurse and she said kidney stones are considered the most painful thing there is. Those who've had 'em would probably agree. Fortunately for me, I've never felt your pain and I hope I never have to. We wish you the best, Troy.

<OT-What's worse than a Kidney Stone???-OT> In Feb. I became ill and was diagnosed with Strepp. I got home, just in time to pass one of those little items, the size of a housefly. I couldn't believe it. My back had been hurting for several days, and I just thought it was a side effect of the Strepp. All this, the day before my Florida vacation started. I talked to a friend that has had two retreived, and he said it wasn't that bad, and probably not as bad as passing them. They have drugs for that you know, and I wish for you, some gooduns.

Here's a tip before they get really bad. The acid in Apple Juice will soften them suckers up. So if you feel that familiar back pain, start a fast and drink only apple juice for a few days (4-5). Then take a tablespoon of olive oil. When I lived in Mexico, there was a plant that had a bamboo tool to it, that worked pretty well. A piece ablout 6 inches dropped in a pitcher of water would make a tea as the oils seeped out of the bamboo, you could see it floating in the water. 1 glass a day for a few days would desolve the stone. Brujaria.
