Troy's panel was hand delivered by Don Hulsey to Kathy Joiner this weekend.

It was inspired by the old 40’s and 50’s style movie theatre marquees.

Here are some pictures of it-

The panel is made out of PVC. "Letterville" is painted using a mask but everything else is handpainted. The brushes are carved HDU.

Good job Troy!

I saw it this weekend in Ft. Myers. It is a really nice panel. I hope to get to participate in the swap next time.

Thank You Kathy,
I would blame Don for the pictures since he took them, but since he did play UPS for me and hand deliver it to Kathy, I won't mention it [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

The pics are not too clear in showing that the word "Letterville" is on a piece of thin acrylic that was then screwed onto the panel with brass screws. The pinstiping is done on the panel in the middle. I think it adds more "depth" to the panel.

The big mistake I feel I made on this panel( there is always "at least" one mistake) is the little doo-dad under the word "Swap". One of those cases where you are in a zone and then go "WHOOOOOPPPPSSS" I went tooooo far [Frown]

I really enjoy working with PVC as it is highly workable, you can do almost anything to it. Also it is really inexpensive alternative to other materials when you want a dimensional sign/panel.
I have tons of idea's for panel/signs that are dimensional, and almost all of them include PVC in some way.

One thing I picked up some time ago in one of the trade magazines about PVC is that if it is going to be exposed to UV rays you will need to protect it with some sort of protection. I believe most of the clear coats will do this.

I also like working with the HDU for making specialty items like the paint brush's on this panel. Unfortunatly the cost of HDU prohibits me from really exploring this substrate to it's fullest. I usually use samples or scraps to shape/carve small items such as these.

I can not wait for the next panel swap and I promise to be on time this go around.

Thanks All
