Just got home. It was a GREAT meet, got to see some of the people I have in my Sign Artist Hall of Fame. Also got to add several to my list. Met some people in person I had known only through the BB. Good food, (awesome ribs), good people and more talent on display than I've ever seen. Good seminars (except John Smith's) a nice representation by suppliers, and now I have to make a "ring swing" for my shop. Great job Cheryl and Don, Thanks.

Since we were only able to make it for one day, we really tried to make the most of it.
I had such a super time talking to folks, meeting new people, and learning something new. I'm thrilled that George Perkins spent so much of his time (and patience) with me. I'm just flabbergasted at what I produced in my attempts at pinstriping. Not that it was any good, but heck ... I just didn't think I'd do anything near that "OK"!
I just wish I'd have been able to expound upon that further. I promised George that I'd practice, and I'm committed to that. I also wish I had had some time to play on some of what Ryan was teaching.
I know I missed alot of good stuff, but I'm just so glad I managed to get in a slice of it anyways.
Thanks Don and Cheryl for having this meet. It did have a very positive and lasting affect on me in several ways. I'm all charged up!
And afterall ... that's what it's all about eh ... or as Rosemary would put it ... no?

John, I checked my list and you don't seem to be on it. However you are on my omelet cooker list. Some people have told me I was a little harsh with you during your hdu demo. If that is true I just want to say from the bottom of my heart...
GOOD. Seeya.

I had an awesome time in Ft. Myers. This was my third meet in 7 months. I've only been to three. It seems that I am trying to pack in alot of info in a short period of time. It was awesome to meet new people with so much knowledge, and so willing to share it. There were alot of flowery shirts there though. John and Joe are awesome cooks, THANKS. Cheryl and Don were great hosts. Pierre learned that he has a career in nail salons if things don't work out in signs, Steve never looked sweeter. Racheal keep practicing with those new brushes. Thanks to everyone that took a little time to talk to me. It was a pleasure. Nothing is as life altering though as spending 24 hours on the road with Ryan Young. What an eventful weekend.

Donald, I want to apologize in advance in being in on the conspiracy with Ryan to have your "Dome Chromed" so as to be able to put the Candy stripes on "The old Pumpkin" Since he was the First one in the world to have a Wood Gunstock Chromed...(BYW which really looks GREAT )I, at first...thought it would look good....but after giving it some thought...maybe a tatoo of some flowers would look better....... he he he he he lol lol lol

We headed down to the islands before starting home. We stayed somewhere in South Jawja on Sunday night, then came home late last night.
I think we should rename this the "Flat Tire Panel Jam". Ryan had one when he got there, we had one on Saturday, and Shep and Kathy got it on the way home.
Had a blast, and really glad we went. Thanks Don and Cheryl.
Walked in the shop this morning, and my answering machine was going into cardiac arrest. I guess I should get off here and call some of them back.
Can't wait till the next one. Oh yeah... did I mention... Thanks Don and Cheryl, I had a great time.

On Sunday night, Pierre decided he wanted to see some alligators. Nobody knew where to find one, so Don Coplen, Chris Elliot, Barb and myself convinced Pierre a drive to Sanibel Is. was required. Never did see any gators, but we saw some nice signs. Watching Pierre climb trees in search of elusive gators was a hoot.
We dropped by Cheryl's shop around noon on Monday to say farewell. The end of a meet is always a bit depressing for me. They just never seem to last long enough.
Chris Elliot was at the shop, along with a bunch of Cheryl's friends. I have to sat I am very envious of Cheryl and the great pals she has. They worked around the clock to ensure us Letterheads were fed and cared for. They are a wonderful crew that I always enjoy being around. Wish we lived closer. I'd love to be part of Cheryl's family of sailing buddies.
We headed back to St. Petersburg Monday afternoon, but made a 2 hour visit to the city of Venice, FL on the way. Woke up this morning in our camper back in Nettie's driveway. We'll be heading home within a couple days. More on the meet and our trip to come.
A big Letterville thank you to our friends Cheryl and Don. Dixie Meets are always special, and this one was no exception. The food was wonderful, the workshops and learning opportunities were non-stop, and the people were warm and inspiring. What can I say? It was truly a Letterhead Meet to remember.

Shep, It was an honor to have four nearly famous guys put some lines on my dome. Who else can say that Ryan ,George, Chris, & Roland have painted on them. I hope to get a good picture of the finished product to put in my shop. I hope to make it a continuing project. It was a pleasure to meet you and so many others. Thanks again Cheryl & Don.

I have seen no ill effects from the striping job. I know Frank Manninng and Gary Mottman kept telling me to take it off. I don't know if they were referring to the paint or what. I have never used Rapid Prep, So I picked up some of the samples to try here. Next time I hope to get some good pictures of the finished product. I didn't get any.

I finally pulled into my shop last night around 5:30 pm singin' "Off the road again....It's so good to be off the road again" (it sounded just like Willie Nelson to me although I've repeatedly been told it's best if I don't try to sing around other people ). I promptly fell asleep in front of the TV for a 12 hour nap, then jumped up this morning to unload the van & have been on the run ever since. Late this afternoon I caught myself singing "on the road again,,,,it'd be so good to be on the road again" (to myself of course)!! As you've probably already realized, we all had a great time at the Sandcastle meet, thanks to Cheryl, Don & all of the other folks who put in all of the time & effort it took to host this event!! Thanks again, y'all!!
After the meet wound down Sunday, those of us still awake (we had to excuse Cheryl for a well deserved nap) had a great meal at Bahama Bay & rode along with Pierre on his hunt for the elusive Florida 'Gator. Didn't sight any but did hear one bark (which sounded suspiciously like Steve releasing some excess gas just as Pierre was leaning way over the fence to get a good look...anyway, I'm glad we weren't in the Jeep at the time ). Made it back to the motel and found out how easy it is to sleep without OP's snoring as background noise!!
I finally returned to the shop to pack up my kit, camera & fridge around 11:00 am Monday and noticed a sharp looking van from Sunshine Signs & had a chance to meet Jack Riggs who was visiting with Cheryl. Jack had to work while the meet was going on but wound up giving Cheryl & I some quick lessons on swinging a brush to do his "up-stroke casual" so we had an informal mimi-meet going on when Steve & Barb dropped by to pack up their stuff. Steve wound up relaxing in a chair with his foot in Barb's lap and as she patiently tried to remove the green paint from his toenails, he continued to discuss the finer points of the sign biz. I guess he really is a "multi-tasking" kinda guy!! Finally got my stuff packed & was almost out of the lot when a Jeep came around the corner & looked like it was gonna hit me head-on until I realized it was Pierre, fresh from the golf course. We all visited for a while until Cheryl headed home to get some well-deserved rest & Pierre talked me into following him to McDonald's for a quick meal. I finally hit the highway around 10:30 pm and almost made it to the Wildwood exit when I blew a tire off the van. Finally got the spare mounted & drove on into town where I found a good little tire shop. I wasn't too tickled about buying a new tire but,on the other hand, did get rid of that annoying little problem with "tire bounce" & vibration at anything faster than 85-90 mph so I was able to keep up with traffic the rest of the way home.
I really had a good time & it was great to see so many old friends & meet so many new ones!! I have yet to attend a bad meet, but this was one of the best I've made yet!! Thanks again & I'm already looking forward to the next one!!
p.s. I'm still smiling about being lucky enough to win the fridge!! It made the trip home in fine shape (thanks to Cheryl, Tim, & Randy's excellent job of boxing it up) in spite of me falling with it when I tripped as I cleared the front door of Cheryl's shop,
