We've discussed ones that "irk" us....I would LOVE to hear someone say to me....
Sure do anything you want to my truck (sign, building facade, etc.) ....money is no object!
Would you like me to give you the money up front?

What are some of your "dream" sayings?

You didn't charge nearly enough for that wonderful job. Let me give you more for it.

I know I'm not your only customer, so I'll try hard not to be a total pain in the a$$.

I dream of the customer who says...

'Yup, I like what you've sugested, but I was thinking of something a LOT MORE elaborate. We have the budget to go WILD on this project you know." [Smile]

Some day...

geez Dan...I can't top that one!!!! [Big Grin]

the only one I can think of off-hand is:

"uh oh...I guess I forgot to bring my checkbook, would cash be OK?" [Wink]

On the other hand (true story) I did have one lady in Scottsdale who was reluctant to accept cash to settle my account and wanted a check instead!!! I never have understood that one!!! [Big Grin]

From my wife... "honey I'm waiting for you in here..."

From tech support after the first ring..."I know exactly what the problem is and here is how to fix it."

From my supplier... "sure we have that, and its 1/2 price today"

From my kids..."sure dad no problem, I would be glad to clean up, really"

I was sitting in a bar one night listening to the political discussion taking place between the bartender/owner and a couple of other customers. This is the type of conversation where a bunch of half wasted dudes are able to see clearly enough to solve all of the world's problems in 34 minutes.

Anyway, they were discussing a local politician and the bartender referred to the guy as "ANOTHER BLEMISH ON THE CHAPPED ASS OF SOCIETY." I thought it was the funniest thing I had ever heard. But, then again, I was in the bar at the time.

A sign I saw hung at a local business...

"If you are in a bad mood, difficult or just plain ignorant, there will be a $___ surcharge for me just having to deal with you."

How I wish. [Smile]

Nine years ago, the regional manager for a major truck manufacturing company told me they wanted to give something to the CEO. He said: "Imagine no budget and the quality is to be that of the presidential seal in Washington, D.C." Ka-Ching!!!

We came up with the idea for an elaborate set of inlays of Copper, Stainless Steel, Blue Bahia Granite and a slew of exotic materials and techniques for $18,000. He almost had a heart attack: "I know I said no budget, but is there anything you can do for a grand". Oh, there IS a budget.

We ended up with a seal of Wenge, Zebrawood, Carrara Marble and Gold and Palladium leaf for $1800.

I heard what I LOVED to hear but I didn't get to do what I would have LOVED to do. Such is life...

What a great post!
Stuff I have actually heard....
Are you sure that's enough?
Do you need that up front?
or the customer who just calls and says:
I need this asap, get it done. (These are the hardest ones to price).
Or my favorite, "You did a design for my friend and it was awesome, do you have time for me too"?

My favourite is when a gov't purchaser calls at year-end and says (true story):

"I have 20K to spend- or I lose it from my budget next year!!let's get crackin' ..."

Then from the other side of the same facility, 24 hrs. later- "I'm sick of dealing with the other dude- I want to order 14K worth of stuff- I'm new at this so SEND ME WHAT YOU THINK I NEED". YEEhaw!!

THe only sad part of all of this is it was taxpayer money...

"You are such a talented person that I am going to make it my mission to see that you have work for the rest of your natural life if you want it. I don't see any reason for you to dwell on work that isn't worthy of your talents so I am personally going to be your benfactor. I don't see any reason a person of your skills should have to do anything other than just what you WANT to do. Also I notice that your shop is in need of an update. I am sending you a blank check so that you can get any equipement that you see fit. I also know that you have worked your fanny off for most of your life and you might need a break and I feel your creativity might be enhanced if you did a round the world trip. You should take your wife and when you get back you should be rested and ready to start on what ever you want to tackle first." [Big Grin]
Now come on folks....let's get REALLY dreaming here!! [Eek!]

"Thank You, I really appreciate what you do"

Actually, that is one I do hear from time to time. But it is still the best.

The saying I most love hearing is "you are a great Mom!" That makes me beam more than anything else.

But for dreaming ...I would love to hear "Cheryl you have been given this quaint old house right on the water with a huge shop and painting loft overlooking Lake Washington on the west side. There are no restrictions as far as signs, landscaping, or remodeling. Go for it! "

I coach football and after the first week of practice last year I got the players together and had all the asst. coaches say a few words to them. Most just said—good job today, see you tomorrow etc. One new coach stood up and said;
You know, the way I see it there are three kinds of players out here,
The ones that are making it happen
The ones that are watching it happen
And a bunch of yall Wondering What Happened!

Trying to be a stoic as I could, I just couldn’t help it, I just busted out laughing, everybody was laughing.
