"earthlink SUCKS..!!"

I got hooked up with earthlink on Dec 15 02 when my service sold out to them. I was really looking forward to the move, as I had heard what a great company they were........

'WERE".... must be the keyword here.......cause they sure do suck now..!!

I'm in an area were DSL isn't available, so that's out.
The numbers earthlink gave me are always 100% Congested.and the numbers they keep trying to give me are TOLL calls...!!

Trying to do anything that is even a little "time sensitive" (like e-bay) is out...keep getting disconnected... [Frown]

I want to find a service that can give me a package like the one EL promises.....
ie: pop e-mails with 10 mgs of web space on each account...........
Business web space.......ETC,,!!
I really want to put "ALL" of my internet, and web stuff under one roof, and I'm tired of reading all the BS sales stuff out there.....

Any Ideas or suggestions..??

NO AOL, or crap like that........... [Smile]

4 months and my patience has reached it's end........Hell, I can't believe I put up with em this long.......Tommorrow I'll have a new provider or just blow this damn computer up, and forget the whole thing..!!
I can't even get on line a good part of the day anymore, getted bumped constantly, and e-mails seem to get screwed up, coming, and going........
(so if you've e-mailed me lately, or I didn't answer ya.....thas why)

Appreciate anything ya can suggest........

Thanks......cj

Oh...Did I mention...........??
earthlink SUCKS.....!!

)lowercase name intentional....)

Hi CJ.....I know what you mean. It gets on the nerves huh. I am lucky we have cable service where we are. But when the cable is down which isn't very often...I keep a free service on my computer ready to go. I've never found a service that really was any better than the free ones until we got cable. Netzero and NOCHARGE.COM are a couple to consider. Why pay for bad service.....

Hey CJ,

To get local access numbers without a toll call I've tried a couple of the small ISP's and been real happy with WiredKS.com and yeah, I know, that doesn't help in your case but my location is about as metropolitan as yours so check out some of the local folks. Most colleges have several T-1 lines (hint, hint) so if all else fails maybe we can get a dorm room that ya could use for an office. [Big Grin]

See y'all Wed. morning, maybe I'll have some better suggestions by then!! [Wink]

I have RoadRunner but my parents and in-laws use www.695online.com for their dial-up. It's $6.95/month and they haven't had any problems other than they just aren't computer literate!!

They have a page to look up local access numbers. Maybe there is one near you!

Basically dial-ups suck. Once you've had a broadband connection you'll wonder how you got along without it. DSL is the way to go if available with cable modem being a good second choice. The other option if you can't get either DSL or cable modem in your area is satellite. Direct TV has a reliable service (except during heavy cloud cover) for $59.99 a month plus the initial purchase of the hardware and software ($579). They also will spread that out over 12 months at $99.99 a month then drop it to $59.99 after that.

Not the greatest deal compared to DSL which costs me $40 a month and the equipment was less than $200 but still an option if dial-up is your only other choice.

"You get what you paye for."

In my opion, you should go with the provider
of your telephone service.

SBC, AT&T; one of those. They are usually more
expensive, but the convience out`weighs the
alternative.

Just one bill. Better connections. 24hr. support.

Actually Richard, not necessarily.

Just like anything else to do with phone lines, there are only a few real 'players' in the market, the rest buy chunks of time from them. So even though you may be dealing with "Manny's House of Internet Connectivity" you could very well be on the same system as sold to you by your local baby bell. That's why Joe's Net Shack in Armpit Falls, Mississippi can have an access number in Unclelovin, West Virginia.

After using several of the national brand name ISPs for years, I went with acer-access.com when I returned to dialup. High marks in review after review prompted me to give them a chance. Basically a couple of young guys who love what they do, they do it well, cheap and are aces when it comes to customer service (usually 10 minute responses to email, 24/7). $12.50 a month, all you can eat plus perks.

I never cared for the Juno's and NetZero's of the world, with their annoying popups and ad-bars. It's worth the extra $3 not to have to deal with that ****z.

A thought on broadband that those of you with it will share I'm sure - it's worse than any drug known to mankind. Once you go DSL or cable, you will be thumpin' a vein if you go back to dialup. I had to when I moved back to the boonies, and let me tell ya - I would rather live in a cheesbox with broadband than BFE with a phone line.

Bummer, I really had good luck with them for the many years as their customer too.

I went with Verizon dsl.
Been on for two months now. So far, so good.

So, I'll be getting to meet you soon eh? [Smile]

I have an account with a local dial-up. It's awesome. I have 2 emails, my website and the only time I had any problems getting on was when the power was out due to an accident that wiped out the pole in front of them. I also have a Copper.net account. I don't use it much, it's $9.95 a month, but they have zillions of access numbers. I wanted one that was cheap but had a number so I could get on while in Pikeville, Ky. I refused to look at msn or any of those. They were the only one I found at the time that knew pikeville existed. I don't know about the other stuff, I just know I haven't had any problems with them with the limited amount I've used it. The biggest problem I have is our phone lines. The lines are the original ones from when they put phone service in our area. I have never connected higher than 28800 and DSL is unthinkable. We live out in the country so cable is out. I refuse to spend what they want for satelite service.

well, I should have know the $9.95 Juno was too good to be true. Didn't realize it put that irritating bar on the top of your browser. I connect at about half the speed as my Verizon account. So back to Verizon ago. That was my $9.95 lesson for the weekend.

--Hey CJ,
I have a friend just a little ways up the hill
from me, at about 5000 feet. He was having the
same problem, except with connection rates.

Any`ways, we hashed out some suggestions and
came up with this solution. Internet TV (dish)
Even gets up towards DSL speeds. Expensive!

How`about a satellite uplink? hahaha

I have been happy with ATT since dropping Juno some time ago, 10 mgs web space, I think up to 6 e-mail addresses, plus NO JUNK MAIL. Also they screen all incoming e-mail for viruses. I talked to someone who gets kicked off alot by them, but have never had that trouble, and they have good support. $16.95...unlimited access.

Juno works sorta like AOL,but just sorta. IT has a portal or interface that it works through. Thats where the simularity ends. I usually connect no lower than 38,600 and most of the time at 40,000. For me here in the hills of eastern ky., thats great for dial up. For 9.95 a month, the interface is little to put up with. My cousin is on AOL and he pays 27.00 a month. And they use the same access numbers as juno.
