I need to match 2 PANTONE colors for a sign and need some direction. I have to paint a sandblasted sign with a RED PANTONE 201u and a BLUE PANTONE 295u. Any thoughts? Is there a mixing formula guide I could purchase somewhere? Do I need to buy the $79 color swap fan type book and experiment with different color mixes?
The sign panel is 30” x 36” x 2” so think I will need to come pretty close to the color…
Any and all info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Joe

You can mix paint using the pantone recipies by substituting one shot and come close to the color.
Your local printer probably has a copy of the book.(incase you need to check your mix, they might lend it to you for an hour?)
pantone 201(u means uncoated or matte finish, how it appears on paper, whereas c means coated or how the same color appears on glossy paper) mix:12 parts Rubine red,4 parts yellow(use lemmon, it's the closest)and 1 part black.
pantone 295: 8 parts Reflex blue, 8 parts Process blue, and 6 parts black.
Hope this helps.

You can also call or Email 1-shot (ask for Tom), and they'll be happy to give you the mix recipes. You can go to their website for their contact info.
Some colors follow the Pantone printing ink mixes and some dont... paints are more opaque than printing inks (which are mostly transparent), so the mixing is sometimes different). This is especially true for the yellows, oranges, and anything using white. (and be sure to use their tinting white, and not lettering white).

Scooter's on track. I had some Pantone colors to match on a sign. I called Kevin Ledbetter at One Shot. He gave me the formulas I wanted. 3 oout of the four colors were right on. The fourth took just a bit of tweaking to get perfect. Its important to mix acuratly which is tough with paint.
