I'm looking for a book for my mother for her birthday.
The book is out of print.
There are a couple of people advertising second-hand copies of the book on Amazon, all in the U.S.
Any information on the tricks of the trade, reliability or otherwise of second hand book traders online is appreciated.
David

Hi David,

Go for it. Just check out the user rating and pick a seller that has good feedback - like you would do on eBay. You may also want to check out www.abebooks.com. They have listings from booksellers all over the world. I have used each service several times, and so far nothing but good luck.

Cheers,

Marty

I have been very pleased with the books that I have gotten that were second hand and I have purchased at least 20 books that way...some very expensive and others not so expensive.

They rely on the larger book sights for their existence and can go down fast if not truthful!

Good Luck

Yup, no problems buying used at Amazon.

They are true to their rating descriptions.

Thank you all very much for you responses.
Not having had any experience with Amazon or their rating system I was a little wary.
Thanks,
David

Same experience here. The only time I had a problem was when I ordered a used book and the seller evidently was out and Amazon contacted me a said that my order couldn't be filled.
