If you are a David Butler fan like me, you've probally asked yourself this question more than once. His designs were wonderful enough before the computer, but this is one "oldtimer" that has really embraced the new technology and put it to work for himself.

Many of us have been hoping to learn more about David's design and production ideas. He's always willing to tell all at live Letterhead Meets, but there never seems to be enough time for any real in depth study. That's about to change!

Dave and Suzie have put together a traveling workshop. All of us now have an opportunity to attend and/or host a Butler Design Workshop in our own shops.

Their very first workshop will be taking place May 16,17,18 in Denver, Colorado. Class size is limited to just 20 people and 12 spots are already gone. That leaves room for another 8 Letterheads.

The cost for this premiere workshop is $250.Those interested can email Dave and Suzie at ddbutler@kconline.com. They will provide you with all the workshop details, as well as Denver motel information. Sounds like a good plan to us!

David and I have discussed the possibility of him coming to Texas to hold his workshop. No definate plans yet, but there is a possiblity that it would be here at my studio, so that it would have more of a Letterhead meet atmosphere. The other idea is to hold it in a larger city (Austin, Dallas, etc.)that is near a major airport with access to a hotel meeting room.

The closest major airport is Austin (70 miles to the south), but there are hotels and restaurants within walking distance of my shop.

Fall or Spring (THIS spring is definately OUT) would probably be the best time because of the Texas heat during the summer months.

I know I am getting myself in for a lot of work, but it would be great to sit at the feet of such a master and learn just a little bit of what makes him tick.

We would probably need at least 12 to sign up in order to get David down from Yankee Land.

I lived most of my life down the road from David. It was always a treat to see his work. There's one project he did for a fish shop that was beyond belief...maybe he'll post a pic of it here if he reads this. He even designed the building! Real eye candy!!!

Anybody not aware, David's putting together the final touches on a 'coffee table book' of many of his designs. I preordered mine awhile back in hopes of being at the top of the list when it comes off the presses!

When I asked David about the book at Rick's funeral, he said that it would probably be out in the summer. My order is placed and I'm standing patiently in line. It should be tremendous.
