Well it seems that we may have a new and improved Omega on our Hands very soon, and If I read correctly we will be able to "Lock" Bitmap images and design over them. And there's many other improvements added as well. Here's a link to the page,
What is the cost going to be for this Upgrade? In Canadian Dollars.
I hope it will be able to do the things I want it to do, I bought this Software last April, and it still sits on my desk, I hav'nt been able to use it just yet,

Not to start a fight Shawn, but Gerber software does lots of things that Corel doesn't, like drive equipment(printers like EDGE, MAXX, JETSTER) etc.
Corel is a great program for design and layout---so are many others. But there have to be programs to drive the design thru production.

Not fighting back either but that's like saying all digital printers that don't print and cut on the same machine aren't adequate...but that would also be putting down gerber and I've seen some great output from the edge systems...All I was saying is that I feel Gerber's programs are a bit overpriced for what they do...that's all, not slamming their abilities just wonder why they haven't had those commands, such as align and distribute, locking bitmaps, justifying text boxes, change case commands, and many more whick Corel has had for years...and at alot less money.
Not going to start any arguments, everyone has their preferences with what cutter, software, computer, car, cat, dog, or monkey that they like, I just feel that some software is a bit too proud of itself.
Have a great day!!

I hate designing in Omega. Never do it if I can possibly avoid it. I own it though, & regardless of the price tag, running my edge jobs with it has created the situation where it hasn't cost me anything...it only makes me money. Years ago I bought a Corel upgrade just for the fonts & clip-art. I never use it because, to me, illustrator is superior.
I think it's fair to consider that these programs have many years head start. When I started using illustrator, it didn't handle gradients at all. Gerber has had to concern itself with complex issues re: designating material settings that automatically adjust heat firing temps, & blade pressure when jobs are output. Illustration programs do not need to work on these issues.
I think Gerber had their priorities right in getting import filters in place for bringing in Illustrator or Corel files, before concerning themselves with duplicating all .ai & .cdr design tools while continuing to develop the edge output features.

Thanks Doug! You handled it better than I did I guess.
I was raised a Gerber baby, but truth be known, most layouts (including mine) don't get done in Gerber OMEGA anymore. I am glad however that I've got Gerber to drive my equipment to make my life easier!

I know this is not on topic, and may get me hurt somehow, but what about the Thermal Printing add-on to SignLab? Personnally, I too design everything on Illustrator/Photoshop and then bring it over to Omega. It is a good program, but how it handles text is just frusterating sometimes!

Thanks for plugging all the great MacImprint features!
Design in Illustrator and PhotoShop with no need to import anywhere! Of course, that's if your on the "other" platform.
