As some of you know I have been working on several projects, one in particular is Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. The job is on a fast track to get finished and the sign company that awarded the contract is heavily into production. They might need extra hands, they have 2 sign painters already, but with the size of the job, and the quick schedule, thay might need qualified hands for some freelance work for a week or 2 near the end of April. Anyone interested with something to show of thier work, please respond here or www.glak2@aol.com so I can give you details.

Well, Greenfield Village is about 5 miles away from here. What are they looking for help on? Ironic that a Californian is looking for help in our own backyard. Is the sign company local to here? I contacted them before and remembered the atrocious signage in such a historically accurate venue.

They aren't looking for help on the signage, as I stated the job is on a fast track to get done and the sign company is going full throttle on getting the signs done The scope of the project is so large, and most companys are not able to produce, install and project manage such a large project in such a short period of time. The company building the signage is very good, and can get the job done, but with so many hand painted signs, they wanted to make sure not to burden the 2 very good painters thay have right now, hence a little help. It's not so ironic that a Californian is doing the work since most projects of this size are usually done by out of state and out of country consultants. I have mentioned numerous times what I do, and how others to get involved in this kind of work, I work on projects all over the world, and at any given time it would be nice to have a pool of talent to pull from to get the job done correctly. The work is in California, next time it might be in Michigan, as a designer it is better to keep a eye on the process in your own backyard with someone you trust, Im sure if you were working on a project there you would feel the same way. Im well aware that some have been either insulted or have taken offense at not getting work and getting some out of state "designers" in your own backyard. I'm sure you could have done a great job and done the job complete from wayfinding, programming to designing cast poles to more than 500 different sign types in 1000 different locations. But the company I work for has had a great opportunity to work on such a great project, who better to implement this by asking the best sign painter around to participate and get paid well for it. If interested I appreciate any help in assisting the sign company in getting the job done to the best possible result. Respectfully Rick Chavez

I'm 20 minutes from there. I have 30 years' signpainting experience. My wife, Wendy, has 15 years'. I did bid on the sign portion of that project last month, but they were looking for a company to "do it all" - signs, construction, digital display, and video production. They had an $800,000.00 budget. I was totally ignored.
We would love to work on the project. Please call.

I know I just called you up Casey, and thanks for your responce. Thats the problem with jobs of this scope, some specialty crafts like sign painting probably should be seperated, mostly because most architectural sign shops have a hard time keeping sign painters on staff. The company awarded the job has 2 very talented guys, but with such a short schedule, thay have only around 2 weeks to complete the job in California to ship to Michigan. Since you have seen the scope of the job, you can inagine trying to coordinate such a large effort dealing with all the sign contractor and vendors, while designing and drafting. I am trying to make sure my favorite part of the project (hand painted pictorials and lettering) has the proper attention. Thanks again, and Ill keep you in mind if anything comes up later.
