Here's my idea for an "OPEN" sign that i'll be printing up (screen print) to give out to local businesses. The size is 19" x 12" (because I can get 20 pieces out of a 4' x 8'). I'm thinking of printing these onto 1mm or 2mm PVC.

Any suggestions for a better material, or design improvements? Or a source for ready-made rounded-corner blanks about this size? (12" x 18" would probably work just as well).

Sorry Scooter I don't feel "Welcome" to your "open" !

You picked a rigid serif typestyle in black ... hard edges/stilted/neutral color. Embelishments have lightning strikes!

It mayby a statement that you are "Open" but it does not "invite"

Go something soft, round ... try a colour like green (go!) All typstyles and colors send a message of their own ... yer just have to think between the lines when you design.

Scoot, I think you got a great idea here. Jon might have a point, although I think for the shoppers with extreme psycological reserves. For this reason, and just because you are trying to get it used by all merchants, I would offer 3 or 4 different design approaches, if it is not too much trouble. Great way to get your company name in front of the public. Jack

Scooter, your idea of 'Open' signs is a good one. However, I agree with Jon, the feel of this is rigid and formal. Think it should have an open, friendly, inviting feel to it.

Corner rounder like this one works fine with pvc or coroplast, 1/2" die. We bought one for business cards and such, then added the bigger radius die for small coroplast signs. corner rounder

Scooter I'm pretty much in agreement with what everybody else said, and here's another "straw on the camel's back": I was concerned about the lack of negative space inside the "O". Probably just nit-picken' on my part. It's still a great idea.

Who knows, maybe you could run another batch without the name, and the rest of us sign bums that don't do much screening could buy them from you.

One thing I'm fascinated/amused by are the "power of suggestion" messages that were once employed. "call" before a ph#, "Come on in!" on a sign like this one. I guess you don't want to be too realistic, though. "BRING BIG BUCKS!" or "BE IN DEBT FOR YEARS" probably would be too much truth in advertising. Thanks for keeping us posted, Jim.
