I’m looking to start color vectorization . Only my software [cas-lite] dose not accommodates this format. I’m told the way to accomplish this is to upgrade to Flexi, now since Flexi Sign I’m told doesn’t color V. I’d have to go with Flexi Plus that can , this is a bit of an over kill for me since I just have a plotter not a printer and don’t have any plans to get one in the near future , and for $1800 for the Plus upgrade [my suppliers quote] that a big nut for me to crack right now . Any one have any suggestions on my options .thanks

I may be no help here or at least very little, not knowing what color vectorization is by title. I would guess that it would allow a cut only directed to a certain color or range and then to cut another color or range from a different vinyl for stacking and giving a colored effect......... If this is the case, many of the drawing programs (like corel) allow for seperation of colors and send them to the printer one at a time. I have been told that Roland will allow for the cutting of a single color from Corel even without the seperating. Am I even in the ballpark on this?

i thing what your saying is cutting by color...you can do that in corel....just duplicate the object and then break it apart by color....send all red pieces then the blue then green to plotter...look into vinylmaster pro...lot less money..

Jimmy, are you refering to the process of importing a color bitmap into the software, posterizing it down to a manageable amount of colors and then vectorizing the objects based on colors?
If that's what you're after, my suggestion is that the money spent now on a program that does this process accurately and efficiently will save you money in the long run. Assuming that you are doing this process fairly often.

Steve , You hit it on the head ,that’s what I’m up to . The thing is I don’t need it much now , but I can see me more in the future. I’m just hoping to find a more economical way of doing it for the type of system I have .

jimmy, if you can save your bitmap image in TIFF format, Streamline from Adobe will do the job. Windows or Mac versions are $122 direct from Adobe so a street price from a discount warehouse should be even less.
You can change bitmap to vector in as many colors as you want although the more colors you have the more memory you need. I've had no problem converting 8 colors.
