I've been tied to my drawing board since the beginning of December. It tends to go that way during the winter, especially since I don't yet have a proper work shop. Through the long winter I've had lots of fun designing some cool projects. And it is a wonderful way to get my creative juices flowing. Not a bad thing at all, but I was ready for a change of pace.
It was high time to get my hands dirty once more!
Last week I got to letter a trailer (it's posted in the portfolio section.) It felt real good to break out the paints and quills and lay down some paint. Although it has been a while, it didn't take long to get into the groove again.
This week it was time to dig out the welder and build a new trailer. And although it has been months since I struck an arc it only took a few seconds before I was dialed in and laying some fine beads.
And it felt good to try my hand at some whittling too in the last week or so. My small part in the French Kiss a Brush project has been a wonderful opportunity to try some carving... something I've done little of in the past but always wanted to. My brain knew exactly what I wanted and my hands quickly figured out how to accomplish it.
And on the Monday of Rick's funeral I laid a little gold leaf. The project was very small but it sure felt good! Even in those couple of hours my appetite was whet to do much, much more. And I learned lots too!
Tomorrow I go to my sister-in-law's place to lay a ceramic tile floor. And I have a few creative ideas up my sleeve to make the project fun. As always I will learn lots more in the process and store it all away for when we build our own dream house & studio soon.
The feeling is the same in each case. Its about creating. Working with my hands is so satisfying. And being creative with my head & hands is what I am meant to do!

I could only imagine what this tiled floor will become! ARG.... what's your hourly rate? We need you HERE!
I know what you mean though. My latest facination is finding nothing stuff and making it into something. Flea market wooden finds are in my blood right now. My last find was a wooden frame with a small ledge, a chalk board frame actually. I coated the ugly old wood a brick red, distressed the edges with my sander, and put in a dry erase/bulletin combo. It was quick and simple, but I look at that thing everyday in my kichen and I'm so pleased at how perfect that find was!
Yesterday I dragged our birdbath we had hiding in some weeds and put it in a nice place by the house among flowering bushes. Filled it with water, Cody floated some daffodile blooms inside, it looked so sweet! It's all I can do to wait till daylight tomorrow and enhance that little area even more, it's contagious!
If I'm not creating something, I'm not usually a very happy camper and feel so non productive. Give me an hour and a bucket of paint and a sander or a shovel and I'm a happy person!
