I was in the post office today like almost every day. We get out mail at a small rural post office. Like always, on the way from our post box I stopped quicky at the counter to say hi to the postmaster. I generally thank her too,
She made a comment that surprised me.
She said that she always looked forward to my coming in because I have the most fun getting my mail of all who came there.
It puzzled me and I discussed it with her briefly. We determined that I get more bills than anyone else. With two active businesses and our household I could understand this.
We recieve as much mail solicitation as everyone else... maybe more.
Teresa said it was the WAY I got my mail that made her smile.
Like always, I sort through the big stack on the counter as I say hi... the bills and ordinary mail always go into a separate pile and "the good stuff" is enjoyed instantly. I don't take time to read it through but I tear into the mail and get my first high immediately with a quick browse. She smiled as I flipped through my favorite periodicals, tore into a letter from someone I haven't heard from in a while, or welcome a cheque that has been too long in arriving.
And parcels are the best even if its only new cheque blanks from our credit union! It's like Christmas.
She told me how she enjoys my delight when with great anticipation I mail out an important proposal or parcel.
It struck me how much of an effect we can have on those around us, even when we don't think anyone is watching. We can make a huge difference for those around us by our attitudes and actions.
And in ways we may never realize.
I hope you have fun getting your mail too.

I couldn't agree more. A positive attitude means everything! Being conscious of our outward appearance has a profound affect on those we encounter and in turn as great if not a greater affect on us !
Be happy to stay happy.

I thought I was the only one! I don't go to the post office, but I "stalk" my mailbox.
I've been known to check the box 5 times before it actually gets there, just hoping for something exciting. I am definitely a mail junkie. And I LOVE to tear into it.
Maybe we should start a club.

When I met with my financial adivsor about my mutual funds, in the Ladie's Washroom there was a small poster in there about positive influences we can make to other people. One that was easy to remember was something to the effect of, "Tell someone, 'You've really made my day today.'" So after my meeting with my advisor, I told him just that. His face changed. I knew right then that it was time to compliment others more.
Just recently I drove through my fav Tim Horton's coffee drive thru, and this voice on the speaker was perfection in every way. It was like I just met thee Mrs. Horton of all time. And I let her know that at the window. She giggled and someone else said over her shoulder, "She gets told that all the time!"
I actually get a kick out of complimenting the smallest of things. Their reaction gives me an absolute high, and I think the compliment may have done the same thing to them, so everyone wins!

Dan, I have always felt obligated to let people know how much they are admired, even if they are very popular and you would think they wouldn't be moved by a compliment. The reaction is very rewarding, they always show appreciation.

Dan, I imagine you are that way 24/7 about almost everything!!
I pick up my mail at a local Mail Boxes Etc...the owners there are about the most unfriendly ppl I've ever run across at this type of business.
They never make eye contact and never say hello, at times i've seen the woman just leaning up against the doorway to the backroom, watching me get my mail. She acts as though this is the most unpleasant experience of her life....
It feels so cold in there, I just try to get to my box and retrieve my mail and get out as fast as possible.
Maybe I'll try a little of that today and see what happens.
