I just recieved my new issue of SignCraft. And any day it arrives is a happy day at our house.
The routine is the same each time I get it. A quick browse through to see all the eye candy. Then it is a quick read of articles that catch my immediate attention. And then a full blast, leasurely read through from cover to cover, soaking in the written words and best of all the pictures.
The quality of work in the latest issue amazed me (as always). The range of materials and styles was mind boggling. Underneath it all was pure creative talent.
It struck me while reading it how fortunate we are to be involved in this industry at this time.
With modern materials and tools we can achieve so much. Combined with talent and hard earned skills we can do fantastic projects today which were not possible years ago. We have so much knowledge and examples of fine work to inspire us. And the demand for elaborate, high quality work has never been higher.
I am blessed with a high demand for creative, outrageous work in my own market. I enjoy more creative freedom than I have ever had before. And many years of establishing a market for this type of work are paying off.
These are opportune times.

I will be picking my issue of Signcraft up Saturday.I have been reading the great magazine since 1990 when Doug Downey interduced it to me.I must reread these books at least 3 times before putting them in their case.Every 3-4 months I will grab a few back issues and go though them from front to back.Always finding some new inturpitation or something new I have missed.I have read a lot of great articals about letterheads from this site.My wife says I will become a part of the book if I keep reading so much. Thanks Dan and thanks to all Letterhaeds!!!

I really do feel that these are opportune times.
That's not to say I don't feel some of the frustrations that come with today's world.
Yesterday, I was having a less than good day. I was victim to the lack of customer service, caring and pride people were taking in their work, by their general demeaner and attitudes. The path from A to B was full of unnecessary pit stops and taking waaaaaay too long. I was hitting road blocks.
Ineptness seems rampant some days, as I see a lack of attention and awareness around me. Yesterday, I was at the mercy of folks that did not do their job adequately and in fact, were darn-right silly in their thought processes towards their very own jobs. I could feel frustration mount within me, to the point that I wanted to bust! I felt disheartened and defeated.
Later in the day, a "quick stop" was anything but, at the grocery store, as I stood at the check out counter and watched a bunch of zombies slowly plowing thru their day with solemn looks on their faces. Everyone looked like they were someplace else, ... absent, and not engaged with what they were doing.
Ultimately, I feel grateful that I wake each day with anticipation and enthusiasm for what I can make of it. Blessed.
I hear many complain and whine about the changes that may or may not be brought about by technology, (I just dumped my share of it above) and while I can participate in commisserating, I also know that each and every one of us could be part of the solution rather than perpetuating the problem. Every small effort counts and it starts by "being present".
I see the ways technology is geared to make things better, and how I can use it to get things done, rather to settle in and get lazy by it.
Personally, many of the advances of this modern day society have helped me to advance and to become more aware. I once resisted change, or anything that ruffled my comfort level. Now, though I still wade in slowly, I embrace it with the intentions of using it towards "betterment".
There are an abundant amount of tools available for us today, that can and should be used for the betterment of ourselves and the world we live in. Think about it ... all the means we have to be empowered by knowledge is closer at hand than ever before!
A day like I had yesterday could leave anyone discouraged. But in looking at the big picture, I am reminded that, these are indeed opportune times.
