I recently purchased an Edge1 and a Dell P3 866 with a 17" monitor. I am looking to buy a battery backup in case the power goes out when using the Edge. Any recommendations on how and what is really necessary to hook up to the UPS. I was told just connect the cpu and the edge because the monitor takes power also. What are you Edge owners running for UPS backups? Thanks. And thanks to Glenn Taylor for guiding me in the right direction when I was looking for a thermal printer. Your post on the Edge comparison really opens the eye! Thanks. Gary

I also understand that some UPS filter the variable surges and spikes from home generators. What kind of protection would I need to not damage system or files that will allow my work on a generator when this wonderful system we have here turns us off for an hour and a half at a time without giving us any prep notice?

I don't have an edge but i do have 2 ups 1 for computer, scanner, monitor and 1 for the plotter. they each have about 30 min. of time for me to finish or save what i am working on. used to have problems when the power would flicker and cause me to lose what i was working on. 1 ups did not have the power to run everything. mine are 900 watt units. you can hook them up to a generator and the keep the power constant. hope this helps. you need to deternine the wattage used by each piece of equipment you will be using to figure out what size you will need
