Is anyone else getting lots of spam from strange addresses?

In less then 24 hours, I've gotten from trade@drywall.andbarter.com and from trade@acupuncture.andbarter.com

When I try to hit the button to remove me from their list, it comes up page not found. When I try to reply to the email, it bounces back that the address has fatal errors.

When are we going to have a "do not spam" list like we now have the "do not call list" for telemarketers?

Kissy....DO NOT click on that "remove me from the list" button!!!!!!

All it does is tell them that they have found a live address. That in turn will put you an a BUNCH OF OTHER LISTS!!!!

Chris, Since the Govt. has allowed us (so far) to have free internet access without taxation, including free advertisment, I doubt if they are going to fund controlling it other that for illegal operations.
Hence, I have just learned to hit the delete key with enjoyment instead of getting upset. If they keep sending, block-em. I would much rather that the post office would delete their spam for me, as it is more confusing to delete. We are very fortunate to have free access.

Chris,

There are a couple things you can do.

1) If you are using IE, you can block any messages from a given source selecting the e-mail and then going to "Message/Block Sender". What that will do is send any e-mail from that source directly to the trash.

2) The other is to invest in a program like McAfee's Spamkiller. Since a lot of e-mail like what you are getting is automated, you can have Spamkiller send a return message which tells the other computer that your address no longer exist. It is what I use and it has clear up a lot of the crap I was getting.

Glenn,
I just hit McAfees' website. $40 ain't a bad deal. I may hit Staples later today and see if it's on the shelf rather than order and wait (I have no patience)

Thanks guys

I constantly complain about my IP and the s l o w connections I get ( actually it's due to the local phone companies phone lines, plus the IP is owned by the phone company ) but the IP has a virus detector/spam detector on it. I get a message when checking my mail and just automatcically dump it. Spam is just not a problem here . For a short while I was using Hot Mail, we won't even go there [Smile]

That's a good point about ISP's, George.

I rarely ever get any spam on my Road Runner cable connection. It get a ton of it on my Earthlink DSL account. Earthlink touts their "Spaminator", but its worthless.

First, as Si said, NEVER reply to a spammer.

When I was a newbie and spam discovered me, I invested some time and effort in learning how to trace and report it. Signed up with SpamCop, downloaded Sam Spade, subscribed to the alt.spam newsgroup, and shot down every single one as it arrived. For the past several years I've had very, very few. Same with a localized newsgroup I read. I don't know if this is HOW the problem was solved, but it's solved.

Like, I don't imagine spammers have any system to warn each other that this address or that newsgroup is dangerous. But they do stay away. And if you Just Hit Delete, they keep coming.
