A couple nights ago I ran down to Wal Mart and used the Kodak kiosk to run prints of some digital photography I shot. Pretty handy since you can plug your camera's flash card directly into the machine and load the photos.

I wasn't expecting much in the terms of print quality, but boy... I was definitely pleasantly surprised! I could not believe the quality, it is so awesome!

Just wanted to let ya know if you've thought about using the kiosks yourselves but are apprehensive about it, dont worry about it!

I printed a couple pics but I only have links to one of them.. I dont have scans of the printed photos because there is no point, they're prefect.. looks like I took the shot on large format film and printed an 8x10!

Here's the original color image straight from the camera, only resized for faster loading online (original is a 4 megapixel image) I did not print a copy of this one.

Here's the version I printed after running it through Photoshop - removed the color, fired up the contrast to highlight the bridge, ran the Film Grain filter to "age" it..

I've used them too. They print pretty decently. THey recently made it VERY clear that they won't reprint anything that has the look of a professional pic without written permission from someone.

Mike that a very nice photo you took with your camera but I suspect the quality has a lot more to do with the guy using it. I have to say though that the 4 megapixels cameras take a fantastic picture. I just bought a Casio QV-R4 4 megapixel and the picture quality blows my old 2 mega camera to smithereens. Im really happy with it for the price and the features it has. For the first time I feel like I bought a camera that I'm really satisfied with. This is my third camera and they keep getting better. Althoght I bought this one for a balance of picture quality and conveinence of size, I see myself getting a more serious professional camera later on.

I damn near sleep with my camera and see everything as a potential fantastic photo composition. So much fun I'm having with it.

Nice photography btw...

Karen, hey I betcha there's still someone down there selling tamales, but when I get down there I always break down at the Hawaiian Ice stand. [Smile]

Bob, Canon has a NICE 11.9 megapixel camera now, the EOS 1Ds, and they'll be releasing a 14 megapixel camera pretty soon supposedly. These two cameras have full size imagers, meaning the pixel area that receives the image is the same size as 35mm film, so it's actually the same aspect ratio as traditional film.. and it uses the full line of EOS or EF lenses. The 14 megapixel camera carries a supposed $5,000 price tag, which is cheaper than the 11megapixel 1Ds.

ummmm, shave ice!

great photos & filtering Mike. I used a kiosk at Costco, no need even for a computer now, for the average point & click masses. 20 cents a pic with no film cost, how great is that.

Doug, I saw that cheap price advertised on the wal mart kiosk too but didnt get how that broke down.. At wal mart it's like $4.75 per sheet for the instant prints, however many photos you can get on one sheet at that same price..

Are you talking about having your digital pics printed in the photolabs behind the counter?

Yeah Mike, the kiosk at costco has compact flash drives, (and other media as well)you pop in the media, download the pics, view each one & select print in any of several different sizes, & when finished click submit. You then get a reciept, & your order, including the digital files is automatically sent to the lab behind the counter. It is not yet 1 hour service, but come back the next day for 20 cent prints. Even just one if you like.

Ahh cool...

So, do the pictures come out in the 4:3 aspect ratio of most digital camera files? or do they come out cropped down to 3:2 like photographs?
