sales pitches that come by in emails? I have had numerous offers over the years for many different brands, I have applied for a few just to see what they are all about, and have always had my applications rejected. About a week ago, I got one about a XEROX color printer, checked out the info, looked interesting, filled out the application, and BAMMM!...I got accepted a couple of days later. I have been searching around for more info now, cause I'm a little nervous that this may be too good to be true. [Roll Eyes]
The printer says that it lists for $4500, but I have seen them advertised around for about $2400, so hopefully it is not a total rip-off. They give you the printer to use, you have to buy your supplies from them, You have to print how ever many copies that you state and agree that you will in the application. If you don't print the alloted amount, they bill you $100 for that month. You have to fax them the amount of copies each month, if you don't, they bill you $150 for that month. They do allow you some time to use it, and if you don't like it, you can send it back and terminate the agreement.
There's like a million sites out there that offer similar stuff, I'm sure alot of them are scams, but maybe a few are legite.
Oh well, I guess I will find out soon enough, my printer shipped out yesterday! if it's a dud, I'll let you know. If it's for real, and anyone else is interested, I'll send you a link (they say that they give $100 referal fees!) [Wink]

I guess it depends who the offer is really from.

I remember a couple years back Xerox had this hot new color laser printer and to promote it, they were offering basically the same program, but it was directly through Xerox, not a 3rd party.

Pay close attention to the toner/ink costs on that printer. They could be so expensive that by the time you go through a few cartridges because of their minimum volume requirement (which you may never NEED in the first place) you may have been able to just buy the printer. [Smile]

I know I would never need to run 10,000 prints/copies per month so toner would last quite a while. [Smile]

There ain't no FREE LUNCH [Big Grin] A number off copier compaies in the metro Detro area offer these deals to schools, churches and biz. They all end up costing you more for supplies. paper and toner ect plus servicing is part of the deal around here. in the fine print it is spelled out the school district I work for had a numbered of school building that got a deal they are still in court about it. the service seems to occour twice as often. Also the machines are rebuilts with new updated housing and a new number. the guy from xerox said the guts of the machine was 20 years old. they shipp them to South of the border to be reworked. [Frown]

Have a nice day and there is no free lunch or printers ect [Cool]

I worked with Xerox for nearly ten years, great company, I got a great education in digital printing and digital theory from them.
One of the other important lessons that I learned from Xerox is about market pricing vs cost pricing, they taught me that the correct price for a given product, on a given day, is whatever the market will bear. You're right 'There is no free Lunch'

What you have to do is determine the total cost of ownership per copy of this 'free' printer.

What consumables do you have to buy, at what yeilds. Remember toner yields are usually based on 5% or 6% coverage. What other consumables are ther, ie. print cartridges, fuser modules, waste sumps etc...

How many copies/prints are you expected to buy every month, what are the charges per page if you do more.

If you want, you can email me the details and I can help you figure out real costs...

Xerox terminology:

Used Machines are never to be described as rebuilt or reworked, They are described as RE-ENGINEERED or REFURBISHED

During maintenance a part or bracket is never 'bent' by the technician, it may, however, be 'reformed'.

Hey Roy,
The goats sound like they may have potential, but if you can train them to coat out boards or weed vinyl, I think you'll have a gold mine! [Razz]
