I hope to be able to get info from southern/southwestern Ontario Canada signshops about what an experienced one or two-person shop, that is legitimately in business, would be able to reach in gross sales per year. Can you give me a range of your gross sales? What do you need to earn in gross sales in order to stay in the business for the long term?

Hello John...and welcome to Letterville. I (and many others that frequent this site) hope you like what you see and read here.

Your question is a tough one to answer. Each of us has our own needs. How much overhead you have, what kind of signs you make (average sale dollars) and how much you want to take out of the business are the key elements that determine how many dollars have to come in every year. How much I need to generate is very different from how much Ken Henry in London or Randy Howe in Port Rowan needs to do. Our products are different, our margins are different and Ken and Randy live a more expensive lifestyle than I do! There is very extensive thread of posts here on the subject of overhead and sales. I suggest you read it. You should be able to get a good handle on how much business you need to generate to make a go of it by following some of the thinking expressed there.

I trust you will find Letterville a good source of sign business advise and keep on asking quetions like this. We all benefit when subjects like this come up.
