Just had to "brag"!!! Feels good to be able to walk the 3 miles a day that I currently am doing!!
For all you smokers...Quit if you want, it is easy. If you don't want to then spend the money!!!! (THAT's why I quit..started to cost too much!! The resulting energy is just a bonus )
NOT a post condemning smokers or to preach but just to let ya know that a 58 year old who smoked for 40 years CAN quit and not die!!!! LOL

Happy Anniversary, Dave !! Comin' up on my 30th. ___________________________________________
To answer Glenn, though he didn't ask ME, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, pretzels, pistachio nuts - I had to have my hands busy doing something. I also quit when it got to be more expensive than I could handle - when they went to 50 cents a pack.

Glenn, I don't know about Dave, but I had a really BIG scare. When I was in the hospital a year ago October for my back they did a routine chest x-ray and the radioligist thought I had Lung Cancer, the next day he ordered a CT scan to confirm it. Luckily it turned out to be scar tissue from when I had pnuemonia.
I haven't had a craving since the first x-ray, I did use the strongest patch for about 26 days, after 30 I was suppose to step-down to a lower dose. I still have 4 of the strong ones and just quit them too.
I was a heavy smoker also, REAL HEAVY, I smoked for over 20 years and the last 5-8 I was at least 2 packs a day, somedays 3 packs.
I do feel better and now I am trying to work on my wieght. I am at 275 and my goal is 220, no real time limit, just the goal wieght.
Everyone who has quit, keep it up!!!!
Everyone who "Wants to" try it!!!!

Glenn..I can't say I had "cravings" as much as "habits". I would instinctively reach for the pack of smokes in my shirt pocket or reach for them in the spot on the desk beside the computer or reach for them on the dash of the van. It was more a "habitual" thing to overcome rather than a "craving" situation.
I remember when I first started smoking..it took a lot of willpower to resist coughing in front of my friends when I first started inhaling..it took less willpower to just quit.
Again...not a preaching session!! Just answering Glenn's question.

I'm glad to say I never picked up the habit.
The reason for asking is for one of my employees. She's been trying to quit (she says). The team has been trying to help her, but I'm convinced (as Troy has illustrated) that it is something that you have to want to do.

OH YES Glenn!!!! You can use all sorts of aids to try and quit but none will help unless you WANT to quit! And if you WANT to quit you don't need any aids! And who wants to have "AIDS" anyway????

Sounds like I quit almost as long ago as Mike. I remember buying my first pack for 55 cents, so I could be one of the cool ones sharing smokes after class let out in 7th grade, instead of just bumming them. I realized I could have got a few snickers bars for that much money, so when I had 7 left I lit them all, stuck them face up in the dirt & sat vigil until they all burned down to the but. Never smoked (tobacco) again. I did, however, have to contend with 25 years of habitual smoking, but gave that up on my 39th birthday. 5 years & 16 days off my cloud & my short term memory seems like it survived ok to me.

Congratulations everyone on quitting!!!! I have been quit for a little over 16 years...... Cannot hardly stand to be in the same room with someone who smokes....... Like Dave says I am not preaching....This is my choice...and everyone is entitled to theirs..
You first have to WANT to quit...it gets easier every day........But the "habit" of reaching for the Pack took about 4 years to completely break...

Congratulations, Dave!!!! It will be 5 years for me on Cinco di Mayo, and I also thought there would be no life after cigarettes. I was a dedicated smoker. 2 packs on a good day.
It's a feather in your cap that only you can remove. So, keep it up, revel in the achievement!
And Glenn, give your employee my e-mail address. I can help, I think.

Wish I was there! Not looking forward to 17 hours on a plane to USA without a cigarette!
Looking at patches and nicotine gum to get me thru. But real hard when yer a 30+ a day for 40+ years. Think I have an addiction!
Sue smokes too, not as much. We do restrict smoking areas in our home to my studio and Sues vinyl cutting room:)
When I started they was 25c a pack! Now they $9.50! Most of that is taxes. The gubbermint just put another 50c a pack tax here to fund an anti-smoking TV commercial! Hahahahhhaa .... As if they really want us to stop smoking and send them broke!
True stories: Dude got caught growing MJ on a large scale out west ... got 2 years in the slammer. Dude got caught with semi trailer load of tobacco crossing state line .... 12 years! Why? Excise on the tobacco was estimated at $2M !!!!
I would really like to stop smoking Tried many times. Record is something like 6 months. Goes in the "too-hard basket file". So I envy you Dave, keep it going man and never look back.
I Quit over 35 years ago when I was 9 yers old, I lit a match, lit the Fag, put the match back in the Box, while still hot, the box almost exploded, caught my hair on fire, singed my eyebrowes, ran home frightened to death what Mom would say, never had a Cig since... what's the big deal about quiting? True story!
Congratulations Dave! Are you back home from Mexico? How was the Holiday?

Thank you for putting in the explanation on how you quit. I quit 35 years ago, people always ask me how and look at me as if I was nuts when I explain. Glad to see someone else use the same simple method of making up your mind to want to quit.
