Got this email from a signpainter buddy of mine the other day in Shelby,NC,..... We CAN buy gasoline that's not from Middle East. Why didn't George W. think of this? Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends. I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil (for the period 9/1/00 - 8/31/01):
All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a monthly basis. Keep this list in your car; share it with friends. Stop paying for terrorism.....
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I'm sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. How much would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next eight days!
I do not know how accurate the numbers are but the math makes sense,....thought I would throw a twist to the projected impact of the email by posting it here,...

If I knew a country was boycotting my nation's goods you could be darn sure I wouldn't be buying THEIR stuff...I suspect Saudis not buying your shampoo would be GREATLY overshadowed by you not buying their oil!!Way to go Timi- good post!!
Where I live there are only two refiners of gas...I wonder where they buy it.

Tony, Very impressive data....However..what if EVERYONE in this Country did not buy ANY Gasoline/Products for 3 days???????? from any source.....I believe this would make them all take notice....Middle Eastern or whever it is produced. Shep'

Not buying gas for 3 days wont prove anything. They know you'll HAVE to fill up eventually so over that 3 day period they could triple the price if they wanted to and there's not a dang thing you could do about it.
Either way, you're going to spend the money whether you buy it before the 3 day boycott or scramble to the pump after the boycott cause your tank is empty.
Here's the *real* solution: Go Solar/electric!

Call me a trouble maker, but I don't care where my gas comes from. I buy from the most convenient station for me. I'm not going to waste my time and more gas driving around town to save 50¢ every time I fill up. I choose instead choose to protest by driving and maintaining a fuel efficient car, car pooling and making as few unnecessary trips as possible. Rather than clogging my email box with stupid junk mail like this, be productive and make sure the air in your tires is at the correct pressure, your air filter is clean and plan your trips accordingly. Gawd I hate spam!

Solar/Electric is old school. We're going Hydrogen!
Here's proof....
Bush Admits Invasion Plans Driven by Hydrogen
(2003-01-31) -- U.S. President George Bush admitted today that he's pressing forward with plans to invade Iraq in order to acquire that nation's potentially-vast supply of hydrogen. During this week's state of the union address, Mr. Bush announced $1.2 billion in federal funding for development of hydrogen-fueled cars.
"Sure, Saddam's an evil dictator who has weapons of mass destruction," the president said, "But my main ambition is to tap those rich reserves of hydrogen. You see, hydrogen can be made from the natural gas produced during the oil-refining process. So, here's the plan: first, we get all the Iraqi oil wells, then we refine the crude, throw away the oil and keep the hydrogen."
Protestors immediately gathered at the White House gates chanting "No blood for hydrogen."

I can remember the big gas shortages in the seventies. I worked for a Chevrolet dealer at the time. A popular vehicle at the time was the 454 pick up. They got about 6 mpg and used a quart of oil every 500-700 miles. The solution for a lot of those folks when gas got tight....Install auxiallary gas tanks that held another fifty gallons

Solar/ Electric vehicles, oh yeah. I can see it now, Daytona 500 will change its name to the Daytona 24 hour endurance race, can you imagine sitting in the bleechers waiting for the race to finish on a day like they last had?

Glenn, yeah I know about hydrogen and things always look promising at first... Hell I liked the idea of Hydrogen too but then I got to thinking:
What happens when the smog in the air is replaced by the steam emmitted from hydrogen powered cars?
Hopefully someone thinks ahead and installs a condenser on the exhaust and a self-contained electrolosis unit to convert that steam back into useable hydrogen and oxygen! Cuts down on steam emmissions (which would make this one miserable planet to live on) and recycles the fuel at the same time.

If, as that email/post states "They report on a monthly basis." Why are the amounts given dated 9/1/00 - 8/31/01 ?
Does anyone keep track of how much imported oil is kept in our own reserve supply and not sold to the general public?
What gasoline/diesel fuel does the US put into the fuel tanks of our military vehicles? Where does it come from?
Around here there are a lot of gas stations being converted to BP brand. I think it's the Amoco stations. So if BP buys or has bought Amoco what gas is being sold?
Where can we find out what other products (if any) we can stop buying?

Nope, but then again it's already boring enough to watch as it is right now.
