The bottom picure is John Stevens - the boy wonder. He came to KC and was afraid to bring his portfolio out of the car! When he opened it up it just blew us all away.
Great memories.

WOW! You can't be serious! There are very few people out there as talented as John Stevens. I am blessed beyond my wildest dreams to have inherited several of John's calligraphic pieces when my dad died. They hang in my house alongside my dad's stuff.

I dont care but the whole bunch of you still look like pot smoking hippies who just returned from a weekend at Woodstock. Only thing missing in these pictures is the tie dyed shirts and bandanas.
I never met John Stevens but I was fortunate to meet Mike Stevens. He and I hit it off right away. Was a sad day when we lost Mike. He was on to something really important in his teachings of layout and design. I wish more newcomers would take the time to read and learn what he had to share about sign design.

Cool?! The guy in the middle is Al Grand. The one next to John is Mark Oatis. The young guy is the one I have been looking for but some old guy keeps jumping in front when I look in the mirror. I wonder what I was explaining right then. I can just barely make out Steve Shortreed, only because I know where he was standing. Audri got all that on video which we have around here someplace. Still cannot capture the noise, heat, humidity and aging beer size we were in. What great memories. By the way, just saw that glass piece again which is on the wall at Rick's along with the original which is all but gone.

In the photo, he was on the phone ordering pizza and beer

Great photos Kent. Those must be from Santa Cruz. I think we were watching Gary Rhoads do his gold leaf scroll shading with asphaltum. In the second one if you look closely off to the left of Mark you can see some show cards I did as a demonstration.
All of those photos are worth their weight in gold to us who experienced those early days. Who would have thunk what those few guys started and what it would look like twenty years later.
Excuse us young folks - the old guys are just getting misty eyed.

Yes you passed the test, I thought you would notice the details. If you remember we drove there via Boise with Dusty and June and picked up Noel and family.
