For the first time in years, I let the weather keep me home today. Since 4am we have had about 10 inches of snow, and it's predicted to snow for at least another 18 hours. I just went out to clear a path to the truck (in the theory that it won't be as much to move later!) and folks, it's comin' down some fierce. New York has 16 inches at last report, Philly is altogether shut down with two feet. This is going to go down in history as one of the "bigguns".

Hey Mike Meyer! C'mon out, bro, you'd love it!

Here in the great white north (misnomer) the land is green. Its great to see the snowline on the mountains which came quite low last night to about a 1000 feet above us.

With gorgeous mountains surrounding us on all side we get the benefits of the beauty of snow without having to shovel or drive in it.

And thats the way I love it!

Hiya Guys,
The snow's finally stopped here and heres the latest count
 -
To be fair, there was about 3 1/2" already on the ground.
Just with this storm alone, we've probably doubled the total accumulation of last years snow fall totals.
Not havin' fun because by back hurts,

I spent part of the morning trying to explain SNOW DAYS to my California-born husband. Poor deprived guy never had the pleasure of waking up to a great snowstorm, turning on the radio and hearing them announce that your school would be closed that day! Nothing better than that when you are a kid.

It's so chilly here today that I actually had to put on a long-sleeved shirt. [Cool] Okay, let me have it - throw those snowballs guys. If you miss me, maybe you'll hit Doug over in Maui! [Cool]

Looks like we're getting a light dusting here in Tampa Florida.
Wait nevermind, false alarm. Looks like homeland security just took out a Columbian airplane with a surface to air missle. People are all over the place laying down outside sniffing the white stuff on the ground.

Hey, Karen, don't be greedy. You White Mountaineers get plenty; this one's all ours! Out the window from where I sit, the neighbor's car is in it up past the hubcaps, the wind is blowing about 30 mph and it's snowin' like a sumbich.

Hey, this is the only way I get President's Day off.

My sister in Massachusetts just called a few minutes ago. She's got about 18" so far and is expecting another 4 or 5 inches.

I think she's more excited than her two boys.

Sure do 'member that one! I was around 12 years old and was still living back in Jersey. We dug a tunnel from our house to the neighbor's house and built an igloo. We had so much fun.

Hey Cam, package some up and send it my way so I can make coffee this summer. Our ditch and reservoir company says they will be completely dry by July. We are in a 100 year drought and sure could use some snow. It was 52 here today when the norm is -20. Our mountain snowpack is 38% behind normal and was already down to half over the last two years. At this rate we will not catch up for many years. We are on severe conservation restrictions. Lawn is dead, bushes are dead, trees are dying and we are afraid to flush. We will take that snow anytime, gladly.

We ended up with 32" here - 5th largest in history. I am watching a triple tanden axel show plows shovel under thier tires to even get out of our neighborhood.

Sunday we had 14 inches on our way to church 25 miles away. We drove my wifes 2003 honda accord coupe without so much as a swerve on 4 inches of packed snow in 25mph. winds.

The guy in his $50,000 hummer we passed on the way could not belive his eyes. Neither could all of our church members who came in 4x4's from accross the street.

Did I mention, my wife was driving? (did I also mention her dad was stationed in Iceland for 4 years where she took drivers training? She considered the snow "a dusting".

Send some snowballs this way anytime! (just don't forget the dry ice.)

Snow Days! Many fond memories in the Chicago suburbs, missing school on the winter days one would want more then ever to be free to play. The true "get out of jail free" card from my childhood memories.

1978 - major highway rescue mission with mini's of Jack D., shovels, my highschool senior buddies, & my moms car. We made it to the train station for our friend (who worked in the city where most co-workers camped in the building)by pushing half a dozen cars out of our way to clear our own path. Ended up being taxi for several strangers as we made it to a major shopping center by a very circuitous route to rescue my friends folks. Felt like the Mounties when everyone huddled around to hear our driving & road condition report. The few who tried to follow us back out to freedom ended up sliding into each other & off the road about 100 feet out of the parking lot. We kept our momentum & got everyone home. I guess all those adolescent cookie cutting & controlled fishtailing joy-rides paid off in a little frozen wasteland driving prowess.

We only got 14" not worth talking about this year.

The Blizzard of '78 was fun. Boston was shut down for 7 days. A Great time was had by all. We got about 50 inches of unpredicted snow. I was stuck in Cambridge for days. After 3 days a liquor store opened up about 1/2 mile away. By the time we hiked down the only beer left was Turborg gold so we pooled our money and bought a couple of cases. Next we went to 7-11, they were sold out of junk food!!! We had to stand in line to buy things like canned sardines.
