I'm using Adobe Illustrator v.9 (mac) and a customer has sent me their logo, which was probably saved in, or created in, Canvas (pc). when i go to open the file, i get an error screen about "MPS parser is unable to parse the file"...

any suggestions? the client's gone til Monday, and that's when its due...

You can try to increase your RAM allocation to Illustrator. Select application icon, then get info from the file menu, then in that window show memory. Here you can change the memory settings. You probably already know how to do that but just incase there it is. Sometimes this helps but it could be a file problem.

Scooter,
You might try opening it in PhotoShop to at least get a visual on it.
Was this file e-mailed to you? I have found that I get a lot of errors if the file is attached without Stuffing it. Don't know exactly why, seems to come across cleaner though.
Try dragging the file onto the Illustrator icon instead of going through the "open" dialog. Works sometimes.
You might download a copy of MacLink Plus too. I've fixed problem files using that utility with about a 50% success ratio.

Canvas is a complex toolbox with as many bitmap tools than vector ones, all mixed in a single file. Like if you assemble in a single package Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, etc.

Sometimes it export very fine complex job, sometimes not.

You should care you customer has create a vector based artwork and export it in AI file format. You should ask him to export it once again as AI 1.0 format, despite it means loss of colors (this was the best way for some of my customer to proceed).

Good luck
