procrastinators? First dont get mad at me, Im putting myself right in there with everybody else.
Lets take a few examples from right here on the board. First, the banner across america idea. Great idea, but it took that sucker forever to make the rounds. Some kept it way too long, others just kept it. [Smile]
Then the canadian banner. That sucker is still stuck out there in signshop land. I noticed a post today that its still making the rounds.
Then theres the panel jam. We probably had six months to get them done, and probably less than half have made it to their homes. More than likely, a few havent even started on them. Shame, shame. [Smile]
Now we can blame this on being too busy, or wrong ideas, or whatever. But I myself am going to quit making excuses when I take too long to do something. The examples above are just three. We could come up with more, I am sure. Seems that we
just keep putting it off, and putting it off, until its passed us by, and then we have to start making excuses. Taint right, Im sure you will agree.
My vote is we are the worlds worst. Keeping a banner in your shop for a month and then finally getting around to it, or taking six months plus to make a panel, has to put us at the top of the list. Please dont be offended by this, but if you are, consider yourself a card carrying procrastinator of the highest level.
This commentary has been brought to you by Aunt Swamee's Chicken fried mountain oysters. mmmm mmmm good!

I keep meaning to join The Procrastinators' Club.

One of these days.

I know something else sign painters are the worst at === If we see a "Wet Paint" sign -- we MUST stick our fingers in it! No way out.

For me, procrastination = indicision. I only seem to put off the things I can't make up my mind about, usually things of an artistic nature. Like a new logo or sign design...sometimes it takes me weeks to decide how to do it, while other times it comes right out in a few minutes. I have reluctantly learned to force myself to sit down and do something in one session,, no matter how long it takes, and usually when I mentally make that commitment, somehow it gets done sooner rather than later. For me, it all boils down to a big dose of self discipline. Once you use it in the manner descibed, then it becomes another tool in the shop. But I think for a lot of people, developing that discipline is a very hard nut to crack.

I got my panel swap info on October third.

That gives me two more months to finish it before I become a procrastinator!

Whew!

Jeff's got it right in my case. When I know what I will do, then I know about how long it will take. If I also know when it needxs to be done, then I have all the information to follow my usual M.O.

wait untill that mathmatically correct genuine "last minute" & then just do it.

Being unclear on some specifics of the job (design/layout or the right tool or material)can be a deterrant to allocating a specific chunk of time & moving forward. Also, in the case of the panel Terry's "loose" deadline didn't help my & my M.O. either. OK, thats enough excuses, I'm going to work on my panel now.

(I always get to the bank at 5 minutes till close)

I don't procrastinate much at all.

I can't afford to.

Now if ya' wanna talk about forgetting about having had something to do, thats a different story entirely.

I'd lose my head if...how's that saying go ?

I totally agree with Steve. Don't confuse procrastination with just plain forgetfulness. I don't know about you guys, but I'm always busy doing a hundred things at once. And mostly, I do things for others first before I get things done for myself!

Even the best laid plans go out the window on a regular basis is the Sign Biz...."you want it WHEN?!!?"
