I've been seeing more and more signs out there using 10-12+ ft. PVC posts with decorative caps and finials (some with flutes). Question is: where can one get such items, and are they cost effective, say, vs. cedar posts and finials. Also, is there a "clean and effective" method for mounting sign faces to the PVC posts?
Thanks and waiting to hear from someone.

Hello Fran - I've never used the pvc posts except for temporary signs, but I'll kick off.
The post and panels we used came as a kit. The side posts were cut to receive the cross pieces. I think there was a slot in all four pieces to receive the pvc face. I've seen them on the web, at trade shows, and in Sign Craft but no trade names come to mind.
For starters, just go down to your local big box home supply house and look at pvc fencing. It looks pretty much the same.
If I were going to go artificial, I think I would look at the artificial decking materials that are now available - much more wood looking. Vic G

Fran, The company that makes Alumalite has some pvc kits, www.signboard.com I've used one and they are well made, it's a 5" x 5" post with some channels inside to slide over a 4" x 4" wooden post.

You can buy hollow pvc covers for wood posts at some home supply stores. They are used on the deck building industry. Also try www.plasteak.com they sell recycled plastic materials.
